Christy Moore – Whatever Tickles Your Fancy
I’m not sure how this happened, but I bought the wrong album. I’d intended to buy the Christy Moore album released before the formation of Planxty, which is essentially the first Planxty album in all but name, but instead bought this, his first album after leaving Planxty.
Never mind, eh? It’s really very good. The tracks are quality folk, ranging from the trad to the verging-on-Horslips in style.
The cover has Moore stood right next to a dartboard. Not the safest place to stand, if you ask me. Because I’m that sort of person, I totalled up his score – a solid 149. On his website, where Moore seems to diligently respond to every comment, someone called Gyp mentions this. Moore replies:
‘no flys on you Gyp
on the money
treble twenty treble nineteen double sixteen
The Meeting Place Dublin
of a Sunday afternoon
a mighty lock-in and
a gansey of loose porter’
I want to know what’s in the shopping bag, though.
