My new musical discovery: Doechii

Just when my birthday was coming to an end a couple of days ago, I took a time to myself to listen to some music, and suddenly I discover this.... amazing, talented, epic.... I have no words, just listen to her Tinny Desk Concert:

It's giving me Esperanza Spalding Meets Method Man with a touch of Frank Zappa. I mean... Can it get better than that?
I'm obsessed....

Funny... I was thinking "this is very tight" and changes 'on a dime' (quickly), and I was reminded of .... Frank Zappa! Then I read your introduction (2nd part) and see you thought the same! Yes, quite an ensemble. I have seen one of their/her performances - I think SNL - but obviously this is not entirely 'made for TV'. Cool.
All good musicians. A 5-string bass, too?

Hahaha nice one Michael. She has this song where she makes an angry voice and it really reminded me of the voices in Zappa's The Adventures of Greggery Peccary.

The 5 string are needed for "swamp session". I don't have perfect pitch, but that sounds like a low D, although it might be even lower than that.... That track is amazing:

And what's funny about the Tiny Desk Concert is that the bass player has probably the most innocent face, yet she's the musician doing the nastiest of lines 😛

Note for note, instrumentation & melody, the entire song is one repeated phrase...
"Someone that I used to know".

Hey, I like her and the vid, but as an ex-music biz person with auditory memory....
