in reply to MAESSR • •WordPress blogs and websites have lots of helpful plugins that work well with the fediverse, including Mastadon, Pixelfed, and I believe Friendica.
If you're not already there, choose a theme like Twenty Twenty-Five or Gourmetto, and then build it around Activity Pub and other plugins.

I have no idea about your familiarity with setting up a blog, but I would recommend doing the homework, just like many people do when they arrive at the fediverse. It takes time, and it's a different learning curve, but the more you get into it, then you learn that are many options.
If it gets overwhelming, it's easy to web search things and find help pages, but you can also use AI assistance like ChatGBT or Claude for pointers. The AI will help you navigate many of the difficult questions, although it sometimes just tosses some half-baked ideas along with the stronger ones.
If you're going to use pictures of your dogs, for example, then I would suggest using a local instance, or at least regional, and then also getting Pixelfed in addition to Mastadon and Friendica. I've only been on Friendica as of this afternoon, but I'm quickly getting it.

Oh, and of course, Pixelfed is like the fediverse answer to Instagram or Flickr, as it's very image or photo oriented, more than Mastadon.
I have looked also to substack, mailchimp, and other email apps, like the ones already included with WordPress.
Anyway, all these things can work together. Brick by brick, you can custom tailor your needs... I just find that it takes lots of homework, and deep personal questions.
I have so many things to do, and more ideas... I have to keep notes. Even apps like Notion, and so on can help with your productivity.

in reply to papavero • •I built our website on Wordpress in 2023 and am constantly working to improve it. Right now I'm starting to think about building a volunteer portal, hence frendica. We do have a Mastodon account, and I personally have Masto and PixelFed accounts. It's been great for the rescue (I took us off Twitter, because ew).
Last night I tried to have ChatGPT write code for a plugin but it didn't work. Still investigating why. I've been exploring lots of tools like that and have managed to get most of the tools we need for free. Lots of work but worth it because the site does so much cool stuff!

I have built several websites over the years, and I've also changed the Word Press theme. Every time I do this, I end up redesigning the pages, the content, the overall functionality, etc. It can be painful, especially if you're just a small independent venture, and you're doing all this work by yourself.
Anyway, I came to realize that all the fediverse plugins more efficiently work when changing the theme to Twenty Twenty-Five, or Gourmetto. There might be a few others, but I think those are the main two options that create a more seamless operation with ActivityPub and so on.
I was previously on Edin theme, for example, and I was trying to make the links to the fediverse, but it would take all this clunky background work, possibly the writing of code (as you mentioned), and then still no guarantees. It just became too difficult. Plus, I need to update the website, and I wanted to move away from Facebook, which I have since deleted like Twitter.

So, I've been going on a long journey of exploring all the alternatives and finding different ways to communicate, share, publish, etc. It's never ending, but I actually do find it more fulfilling than dealing with the endless "nonsense" on the other platforms, which has taken its toll on me over the last two decades.
