Jewish officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ‘Hasid’ became a full cavalier of the ‘Star of Glory’: what is known about the award, the secretive officer, and his connection with Israel

The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Moshe Reuven Asman, reported on September 2, 2026, that a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign "Hasid" received a new award and became a full holder of the "Star of Glory." The wording of the basis is also unusual: the award followed "for the execution of special tasks from the High Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

Asman did not name the real name of the serviceman, nor the unit, nor the nature of these tasks. He only wrote that "Hasid" is a believer of his community, and added: "I am sincerely proud that there are such Jews in our community."
