Dusk at Shark Fin Cove:

One of the lesser-known spots along the Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Cruz and Davenport is Shark Fin Cove. While open to the public (8am to Sunset) getting to this largely-unmarked beach means parking at a small shoulder-pull-off just south of Davenport, hiking across the abandoned Southern Pacific Railroad tracks and then climbing down a steep-ish makeshift trail to the beach.

Once there, it isnโ€™t hard to figure out how the Cove got its name, since it is dominated by a large Fin-shaped rock. Other little surprises once you get to the beach are a small underground stream that exits from the north cliffside into the ocean, and a rock-tunnel to the waterโ€™s edge on the south.

It takes a little effort, but if you have the time and are OK with climbing a bit, it is well-worth the stop:

Several post-processing steps were taken to get more of a โ€œAdamsโ€ style look of this image in Black and White, starting with some mild haze removal in Photoshop Elements, and then performing the Black and White conversion in Radiant Photo 2.
