Creating groups?

I'm trying to find how to create a group on Friendica. According to the docs, it should be under the "Contacts" tab, but I'm not seeing it there.

Peter Sørensen reshared this.

You need to create an additional account and make that an account of (most likely) "Community Group". To create an additional account you need to go to "Settings" → "Manage accounts" → "Register an additional account". (Yes, extremely counter intuitive, I agree. I'm new here as well.)

You can also go to the Network page (first icon top left) and then in the left pane you'll see Groups. Behind that you'll see a + sign, where you can add a group. But that will basically take you to the create account page 😀

I'll write up a how-to and post it to !New To Friendica

Do include screenshots, because I've been in a couple of threads here where some people refer to that plus sign, and other people, myself included, can't find it. 👍

Ah, I've figured out the problem with the missing plus. You need to be member of at least one group for it to appear. I joined "New To Friendica", and lo and behold, it appeared.

So I need one account per group or just one account to create all the groups?
in reply to Arto Koistinen

A group is really a special type of account in the implementation, so one managed account per group.

Perhaps you need to check the settings "Settings" → "Account" → "Security and privacy" → {"Publish your profile in local site directory?", "Allow your profile to be searchable globally?"}? (I haven't tested this at all myself, just a (probably misguided) attempt at being helpful. 😀
