How to share a video to Friendica.world in March 2025
//EDIT: The missing "Attach File" button seems to be a fearue of the Frio/BookFace theme. Other Frio appearance options seem to work. Insights from the BookFace developer in the comments!
Feel free to share the post if you find the instructions helpful. And feel free to correct me, if I missed or misunderstood something!
1. Change the theme to Vrier (the "Attach file" button is not available on the default Frio theme)
2. Start writing a post and press Attach File icon
3. Scroll down to find Upload button
4. Upload your video (at least smallish mp4-files work)
5. Click the filename you just uploaded
6. Finish and share your post!

in reply to Ilka • •Hello, I created the Bookface scheme for Frio. I'm not actually part of the Friendica development team. I just made a custom stylesheet.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's not a bug. I purposely hid the "File Attachment" button because there is no interface for managing/deleting the files. It only works with relatively small files and even when the upload limit is large it is prone to failing. Also, sometimes you may intend to upload an image and it will be uploaded as a file instead. Rather than expose new users to this incomplete, partially-broken feature, I made a UX design decision to hide the button in Bookface.
According to the Friendica GitHub account the lead developer said "I'd suggest you use PeerTube to post video and reshare from your Friendica account since both support ActivityPub." Presumably people should also be sharing other types of files by putting them on a cloud drive somewhere and sharing

Years ago there was a video upload button and section. Those were removed because none of the current Friendica developers have experience with handing video files. IMO if they're not going to add a file manager the File attachment feature should also be removed.

in reply to Pygoscelis Papua • •Thank you for your reply and the super interesting insights! I had been wondering about managing my uploaded files. What if I wanted to delete a file for any reason - let's say if I had picked a private file instead of the intended video by mistake. Apparently there is no way to do that.
I'll look into PeerTube for sharing videos!
@Antoine Vinon , here is some insight about the missing button. It makes sense now!
