I'm testing #Friendica to maybe use it instead of #Mastodon — what I've been using for my #Fediverse account until now.

Does anybody reading this know how to import my existing contacts (following on Mastodon)? Searching this I've found some pages saying I should use an option to import contacts at the end of the settings pages, but I don't see that option.

Under settings, third from the bottom, friendica.world/settings/impor… ?

(Haven't tried it myself, and am also rather new "here".)

I may be doing something wrong but I still don't see that option in the settings. Anyway, thank you for the direct link (which worked).

@Rodrigo Portela It's under settings then account, and there's an import contacts section.

Unfortunately automatic migration isn't supported between mastodon and friendica last I checked (you have to do a couple steps manually).

@Shiri Bailem

Thank you.

I finally found that and other sections after realizing there's a different secondary menu on the left of the top bar when selecting settings.

Hm… I just entered my Mastodon data and it sent all the follow requests. From your comment it seems like it was harder before.

@Rodrigo Portela it's not hard just more steps, in mastodon there's just a "I'm relocating to another node" then go to that node and say "I'm relocating from there, here's my password" and bam, sends out the relocation notifications, transfers contacts, etc. Some nodes (I think not Mastodon? but similar) import the posts too.

@Shiri Bailem Yes, I was trying to find it on the mobile web app. I had seen the secondary menu on the left but hadn't realized it changed its contents when selecting different options from the… main menu on the top bar on the right.

@Marcin Lis (Fox) Beside other functionality details, two main features or groups of features made me consider the change:

  • Text formatting options instead of only plain text.
  • Granular privacy options for each publication where you're able to allow visibility by groups of accounts beyond basic public/unlisted/followers/local.
