It seems weird, like half the places don't let you like or upvote things, and the others all have their own weird challenges. Like on this site, I can search for stuff but can't comment on it, and when content is supplied from another site or instance, I have to go create an account on it just to interact with it. I'm confused what the logic was behind this, it seems like in order to use any part of the fediverse one has to create accounts on all other parts.

I want this to succeed more than anyone. I HATE corporations, I HATE the platforms they create and what they do to freedom of speech in them. Humanity MUST escape the shitholes corporations created for us, and the fediverse is the single greatest hope for this that I've ever seen. Just sad that even someone as gung ho as me is struggling to get it to work for them, but hopefully it's just a matter of time till we get this all dialed in and start taking over. Lemme know if you think of any tips or tricks.
