To make the latter work AI is about the only way to adjust fields rapidly enough to prevent instability. In addition to it's applicability in this realm, it is also useful for things like alpha fold protein folding prediction that can help us with new drugs, diagnostics, coding.
We are in a regime where the birth rate is lower than the replacement rate, this means fewer and fewer young will be available to support the aging. AI and robotics are about the only viable solution to this.
