I'm looking for some recommendations for a thing. My 12-year-old niece has bad ADHD and can't really handle having a cellphone (she constantly loses or breaks them, or gets them confiscated by accidentally bringing them to school), so my sister is looking for a means of getting her a phone number that can receive texts and send them to her tablet or Chromebook over ordinary SMS. Does anyone know of something simple that exists?

I believe many models of tablet do have a SIM card slot and are capable of doing SMS. I do not use one this way personally but a quick search shows lots of results.

I don't really care how people pronounce GIF or PNG but I always find the "argument" about the G in GIF standing for "Graphics" absurd. If you were to spell it out you would say "Gee Eye Eff", not "Guh Eye Eff", too. The pronunciation of an acronym, likewise, is not dictated by the words that the letters stand for. You want so say "Ghif"? Fine. "Jif"? Be my guest. "Pee En Gee"? okay. "Ping"? Nice. You do you.
