My newest Citation Needed project made an appearance on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver! It’s a work in progress, but you can see the new interactive version of my map of the Trump family’s crypto ventures at map.citationneeded.news/.
The map contains hundreds of business entities and links to the Trump family (with more being added!), augmented with data from the president’s most recent financial filings to estimate how much money is flowing in. It will be queryable by other researchers/journalists.

@Frantasaur @aanee Estrogen is part of it.
Endurance prioritizes other aspects. Where muscle mass is a bonus for sprints, more muscle mass means more energy burnt in the same time frame. It's like driving an F1 car for many kilometers: You have to refuel constantly. The fuel you'd need to carry to be able to sustain this is insane. So for endurance you want actually less muscle mass, estrogen or not.
However, estrogen also helps with using fat as a fuel source. Fat is a very efficient but long/slow burning energy resource. Exactly what you both want to have a bit of, for endurance, but also want to be able to make use of. Estrogen helps with that.
Other factors exist too, but that's one of the "inherent" ones.

Maps often pull Hawaii and Alaska off and put them near the west coast. I’d mostly seen maps that showed Hawaii a couple of hundred miles from California and thought that’s where it was until I looked on a world map. They put a little box around them to show that they’ve been moved, but that doesn’t convey that Hawaii was moved further than the width of the map.
The same happens on a much smaller scale on this side of the pond. Maps of the UK that include the Channel Islands (which are very close to the coast of France) tend to put them in a little box near Plymouth. I assumed growing up that the reason they were British was because they much closer to Britain than France, which is not even slightly true.

Kudos for doing such an amazing job.
I wish we were to have a truly independent search engine, free and with no AI nonsense.
We can't have a web in our terms when the big search engines are getting us less and less genuine results each day, even these are buried by AI nonsense, and are soon to be scrapped.
AFAIK, Startpage results are taken from Google's engine, so it is not really independent.
Now that Google is ditching search results, I wonder what is Startpage going to do. Probably the same.
@jgg
My early understanding was also Google, but that my IP is not revealed to them. Not sure what engine they use now, I could not find out via the Privacy link at the bottom of their home page. Using their "Anonymous View" link in search results is supposed to be fully private.
Anyway, by using Firefox, Startpage, uBlock Origin, Privacy badger, and the included Startpage Privacy Protection, I very, very rarely see any ads.
The "About" link in the home page hamburger also has good info.
Startpage has always acted as a sort of a proxy to Google. That gives us more privacy (but beware of what you put on your search terms) and no ads, which is nice; but the quality of results of Google Search is lowering each day; and they are going to stop showing them anymore soon; so Startpage is very likely going to be left in the cold. You may have issues with US government control of the search results bias.
@IntangibleSloth
Duckduckgo results, according to Wikipedia, come from a diversity of sources, including Google and Bing, so they are not really independent, and as Google is removing real search results, with Bing very likely doing the same, they may be doing the same soon.
They made recently a poll about AI, with 90% of people refusing it; their answer was creating the noai version. That reveals a strong pro-ai bias, since the right thing would have been refusing to use AI at all, or creating a ai.duckduckgo.com and leaving the main domain AI free.
this isn't gonna be as detailed as I'd like because I don't have it in me atm, but in short, I want a carbon copy of how the Firefox bar behaves, because that's one of the strongest features of Firefox IMO.
A bit longer: I find the address bar the absolute worst feature of Vivaldi. The defaults are *painful.* No I don't want it to auto-highlight everything when I click once, wtf? No I don't want terrible irrelevant suggestions. It should be unobtrusive, *unchanging*, and not in my way.
Like yes I know I can customize half this stuff and I have indeed poked at settings in a state of great irritation more than once, but if I'm having to twiddle a bunch of settings out of the box to get an address bar which doesn't break half my UX expectations, it's a problem.
Chromium's address bar manages to just be not as good compared to Firefox (though it seems to have improved in the past couple years?), I find Vivaldi's actively hostile to the point of anger.
Vivaldi has a lot of good features but the address bar is so fundamental to how many people use a browser that IMNSHO it should be an area where experimentation is conservative and behind opt-in options, where maximum effort at UX (both theory - does this work like most people expect - and polish - is this rough around the edges in any way) should apply, and where change should be exceedingly rare.
anyway thanks for all your work regardless, overall I am a fan! 🌿

his comment is utterly invalid
perfectionism is for immature losers
and i will attack him for it, because it's the dreariest lamest shit. it's the toilet of social media. whiny shitbags endlessly complaining because we haven't achieved purity. never a kind word for good progress, good effort, positive statements
i despise these entitled karens, and they are legion
anything else i can help you with today?
i'm calling out their toxicity
"no, you!" is not the genius argument you think it is my best friend
i will certainly not stop calling out this personality disorder of "demand perfect, never be supportive of good work and positive effort" whiny useless shit
you certainly do not have to like that
you are free to mute, block, ignore, etc to your heart's desire
and so welcome to mastodon, and enjoy your stay
in this life
we are tolerant, except to the intolerant
we are sensitive, except to the insensitive
we are nonviolent, except to the violent
etc
and we are not toxic, except to the toxic
if you are not familiar with the Vivaldi account, or other major accounts, they attract this sort of endless pit of pathetic reply guys: they fill your screen with harsh whiny demands for perfection
never any appreciation
they are toxic shit
and i will call them out on it
@benroyce @H0W25 @YurkshireLad
Proposing new features or refinements is another way to contribute to a project. Criticism is too, if it is made in a constructive way. Telling someone always that he is perfect and should never change can be terribly damaging in the long run, since it leads to self-complacency, stagnation and even narcissism. Software projects usually have more features to implement and bugs to resolve than resources to do it; but knowing what users demand is always useful.
The toxic criticism is when somebody throws a "Your browser is shit!" or "XYZ is much better!" with no explanation.
He may have started with a 'I love Vivaldi', it would have been nicer, but I think it was implicit somewhat. The irony here is that you have been far more harsher with him than he was in his first comment.
Anyway, I agree that it would be much better if Vivaldi were to have a homemade first class engine, but I'm not sure if the company has enough resources to do that. Pretty sure they would love to. In any case, it would take a long time to do that. About other engines, the only other mature options are Safari and Firefox engines. I don't think depending on Apple would be much better, and the fact is nearly everybody who makes a new browser chooses to use Chrome engine; I'm not sure why, I suspect Firefox's is not nearly as easy to reuse, but I'm only guessing.
@jgg @H0W25 @YurkshireLad
Well said
I would merely reply that the "no Chromium" in demanding terms without any appreciation is under every post Vivaldi makes
other large accounts also get these sort of endless pointless unhelpful pefectionist criticism without consideration
it's mindless and you're certainly welcome to consider my comment as unnecessary but i will merely say i'm on a trip about it becaise i'm sick of it
i'm not blocking you, jimmyb, you're blocking me
if i recall our conversation which led to the rupture correctly, you were vomiting whataboutism that blames the west for russia invading ukraine

that's a bigger turn off for me
@wafflesies
i understand their whole BAT "basic attention token" model
you're downloading an entire catalog of ads and then being matched to ads locally, so i admit the privacy aspect
but it's still rather smarmy no? you get little tokens for viewing ads? yuck
i would like to offer an even better model to you:
no ads. block 'em
and crypto money schemes are looking quite tattered and decrepit nowadays, the whole sector is a dead end
it seems to be a late 2010s fad that is fading
as long as you realize all these crypto scheme models are going bye bye. it's antiquated already. the world is moving past crypto (thank god)

vivaldi does not sell user data, build profiling algorithms, or accept monetization from Google

"Using an AI to browse for you is like paying a robot to go out to dinner with your friends and give you a text summary of the evening when it gets home."
That dinner-summary analogy hits the nail on the head. The corporate push for AI isn't about saving you time; it's about killing your curiosity so they can control the bottleneck of what you see and what you don't.
2/
Without human exploration, the diversity of the web dies. But capitalism demands we replace active exploration with inactive spectatorship, turning users into passive consumers of synthesized noise.
They are industrialized tools built to monetize convenience by destroying human agency. It’s a relief to see at least one browser team choosing humans over the investor hype cycle.
good choice but the statement honestly looks like something AI would construct to post on LinkedIn 😊

Thankfully QR code as the only way to see the menu at a restaurant isn't popular where I live. Most places have them, but most of those would also just give you paper menus by default. Also, you wouldn't lose much by not having a bank account at all. Almost everything can be paid in cash.

I do think you should be able to pay with a card at least, in person. Ideally with cash too - but given that so many are "$3.20 for an hour, 4.43 for two hours" I can see that having the right change might be a pain.
What annoys me most if that I have 4 different parking apps on my phone. Because every single place seems to have a different app needed. So even when I have installed and set up one, next time, I will need another one.
