The "Wheel of Ghosts" refers to an ancient megalithic structure called Rujm el-Hiri, located in the Golan Heights.

It's a fascinating site with a mysterious past, and recent research has challenged some long-held beliefs about its purpose.

A #Dyson #Sphere is a hypothetical structure that surrounds a star to capture its energy.

It's a theoretical solution to the energy needs of a civilization that has outgrown the resources of its home planet.

Ayacucho Antpitta

Medium-sized antpitta found only in a small area of the eastern Andes in south central Peru, not far from the city of the same name. Plumage is rich chestnut-brown with a hint of buff on the belly. Similar to Urubamba Antpitta but lacks a pale eyering. Knowledge of geographical range and song is very helpful for ID. Gives a short whistle repeated every couple of seconds as well as a quick, descending series of throaty notes. Inhabits cloud forest at high elevations and usually stays well-hidden on the ground, though may perch higher to sing. It was described as a new species in 2020, having previously been considered a form of Chestnut Antpitta.

Red-winged Laughingthrush

Striking large laughingthrush of broadleaf hilly and montane forests in central-southern China and far northern Vietnam. Look for bright red wings and tail, pale silver-gray crown and cheek patches, and extensive dark throat and chest. Compare with orange crown, paler whitish cheeks, and less extensive dark throat of Red-tailed Laughingthrush, which overlaps marginally with this species in range, but tends not to occur in the same areas. Shy, often staying in dense bushes; forages in pairs or small flocks close to the ground. Gives a wavering whistle: ā€œdooEEEEooo.

Why must people constantly be reminded to love and/or to take care of themselves? Isn't that just a natural part of living? If you're tired, sleep. If you're hungry, eat. If you find something that you like and can afford it, buy it. If you want to relax, do so. Conversely, if you're unhappy, get out of that situation, or at least work toward doing so in the near future. This is all common sense.

(All quotes here are fictional.)
If people don't want to think about what's going on in the world, why do they keep mentioning it in their so-called unrelated posts? I am not talking about the TimelineCleanser tag, which I follow, but in general. "Here's a picture to help during these difficult times." "It's hard to smile during this election year, but I just planted my garden." "I love listening to this music, as it makes me forget what's going on in the world." Just post the pleasant thing and stop mentioning the mess! Those of us who are also trying to stay out of it don't need to be reminded of it either!

After burial mounds, moats are the most common archaeological feature in the British landscape. There are at least five-and-a-half thousand, not only surrounding castles, but also dug around manor houses, monasteries, farms, chapels and even windmills. Moats had several functions - defence, keeping out thieves, deterring wildlife, acting as firebreaks, and being status symbols. The country's deepest moat is said to be at Nunney, Somerset - folklore claims it is bottomless. #history #archaeology #psychogeography #folklore #weird #geography #landscape

Penguin has slightly more manageable hordes. Her primary, and originally secret, horde is string, especially string of the silver string variety. I discovered it on accident during early covid after early masks shortages. My mom has attempted to sew some, but the string she used didn’t work very well. Penguin ended up digging it out of the garbage and secretly played with it for months.

my next city over Chester is the most secretive with his hordes. When my sister moved to her new home and took Chester, a lot of areas only accessible to cats became available. He had many hidden collections of homemade cat toys all over my basement. Took me months to find them at.

The Classical Music group put this one in my head today by mentioning the Merry Widow. I refuse to take responsibility for the humming, singing, and smiling! Then again, Lehar did write Land of Smiles as well. Here, then, is the Merry Widow Waltz.

First, we have an instrumental version from 1907, very close to when the original operetta was written.

youtube.com/watch?v=Uig1bseIjS…

Now, from Richard Tauber, with words in the original German. Lehar and Tauber worked so closely that it was like Novello and Hassall, only instead of writing the lyrics, Tauber sang them, and very beautifully, I might add. There are many other videos of him, including several with Lehar himself at the piano!
