I was just thinking about why (as I understood it in the 80’s) the Doppler radars were so important to invest so much into in the first place—when was the last time severe weather produced an unexpected downdraft and swatted an airliner out of the sky? And how soon do we lose the roll of the dice at a midwestern airport that has its Doppler out? Madness…
