I saw it this past weekend... the worst boat name ever. I'm sure you've seen the clichés, like Sea-renity, or the scatological, like Passing Wind, but aside from being overdone, they're okay. This one, though:

Pounder Hard

The toxic machismo expressed in boat names bragging about one's sexual prowess is already awful, but this one's doesn't even make any sense! It's not a pun or play on words, so, just, why?

@DrALJONES @su_liam that would be straight up moderation. Blocking, defederating, etc are not shadow-banning. User-side tools like word filters and silencing or blocking wouldn't fit either even on the loosest definition of a shadow-ban.

The second paragraph of the linked wikipedia page acknowledges the definition I was thinking about as an evolution of the term, and I think it's the one that applies more often on modern social networks. The "algorithm hell" is definitely the most commonly used definition I've seen.

Regardless of the definition you like the most, on the fediverse you can't just get hidden from the masses, without knowing it, for talking about sensitive topics. You can be moderated, but if you don't like your instance or it's defederated you can just migrate to a more visible one.

@DrALJONES well then I have no clue by what do you mean by "shadowbanning" ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Here's how the fediverse and, by extension, mastodon servers work with each other:
w3c.github.io/activitypub/

And here your server's rules, which is the hardest policy you can get:
mastodon.social/about

Anything else is conspiracy theories, corrupted mods, or non-activitypub compliant server software.

“The BBC has announced that it has ‘no plans’ to restore to its iPlayer platform the documentary on the struggle faced by Gaza’s children under Israel’s genocide that it deleted last week under pressure from the Israeli embassy and UK Israel lobby.” – Skwawkbox

Comment on the steaming channel points out that:

"the [narrator] boy’s father served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture in Gaza. Dr. Ayman al-Yazouri has a PhD in environmental chemistry from Huddersfield University in England.

The man is not Hamas but someone who worked in a government functioning in a besieged territory. Agriculture is his specialty.

Second and more important, the documentary shows people who, as they run away from the invading israeli forces, curse Hamas and curse Sinwar.
