First, we have to be able to afford them. Our health insurance nightmare industrial complex, combined with a nearly slave-labor level minimum wage, combined with poor benefits packages via employers, etc., means that we can't afford those things anyway.

I am continuing my journey AWAY from Meta and Google. My Facebook account is deleted and I have no other Meta apps that I use. I'm using Bluesky and Mastodon now. I've been using Gmail since 2004, the year it came out.
I am on a similar journey. I'm really diving into Friendica as my Facebook replacement right now. I hopped onto PeerTube for my small video hosting needs, but will definitely take a look at Dailymotion as well.
It is small, but federated (ActivityPub). Some of the instances have plugins for integrating BlueSky as well (friendica.world and my-place.social both do). The interface is built as more of a Facebook replacement complete with groups and a calendar). Oh, and you can add rss feeds right into your newsfeed (I now subscribe to your blog in my feed!).
Down side so far... it is a little slow. But that might be my instance/server being overseas.

Today it's weapons, tomorrow tools and the day after tomorrow something else. At best, you can only buy things for which you don't need spare parts and for which you can do without a warranty. The USA is effectively no longer of economic interest.

@martinvermeer US support means that the Radar jammers on F16s need to be adjusted every time the Russians adjust frequencies to identify F16s. it's the usual back and forth. under Biden a dedicated team was built to take care of the matter. this team has been slashed. from now on Radar jamming will work fine until the Russians change frequencies again. Luckily enough the French have improved jamming on their Mirage Jets and for sure Mirages will do the F16s jobs very soon.

They have done so in the past for other countries in the middle east, who bought F-15 and F-16 but replaced part of the electronic systems with equivalent French equipment.

Gripen E-series is a true swing-role fighter with outstanding capabilities. The fighter is developed to counter and defeat the most advanced threats in a modern battlespace and to continuously evolve in order to keep up with new challenges.
- I have wondered recently whether, since the modern generations of fast jets are fly by wire (and are often inherently aerodynamically unstable without) whether somewhere in those - was it 8 million lines of code that make the latest generations fly - there isn't a back door allowing the US to "Brick" the aircraft should they wish (as John Deere can do with their agricultural equipment).

The French military needs at least 20 more to be fully functional, they don't have enough, but that could change with the new investments. From what I read, they will give more Mirage 2000, they still have 20 of them in the Armée de l'air. This is still a very capable plane and they upgraded the avionics for Ukraine.
The US seems determined to destroy their export industries, not just in defence but in all key strategic technological areas, not just for Europe and the UK, for whom they are an adversary, but also for any country which still considers them an ally or even just a potential supplier.

@Anders @taatm @BobHorowitz The Netherlands have always been very pro American, too much so maybe when it came to nukes in the 80s. Very thankful for the US effort in WWII and even before that: we were the first nation in the world to acknowledge the US as an independent nation. We even import more from the US than we export to it (makes Trump happy). A very, very old friendship and even though we're a small country, we always added a pro American sound to EU contemplations/decisions.
I take this very personally. My mom was a contracting officer and worked on this technology in the 90s. I was so proud of her! (She started out as a secretary, and started on the path to promotion after having raised six kids.) She is absolutely horrified to see what is happening to civil servants, but this broke her heart.
This should also signal the same assessment of risks for all buyers of US military equipment (I guess they already were doing that), which I wish would create a pressure on of US's military production complex with realisation that their profits would be diminished by the current administration.

Under one user account you can have a Macro blog, a Website, a Wiki, a Forum. So ipso facto it has rich formatting via bbcode HTML or mark-up.
There are also advanced privacy controls for self, groups, and all your data. Which implies you'll have to really use hashtags if you want to interact with the rest of the Fediverse. On the plus side it has several cool looking themes.
It takes federation to the next level by employing a concept called Nomadic identity i.e. automatically syncing/backup your data on two different servers.
