Sonnet 090 - XC
Then hate me when thou wilt; if ever, now;
Now, while the world is bent my deeds to cross,
Join with the spite of fortune, make me bow,
And do not drop in for an after-loss:
Ah! do not, when my heart hath 'scaped this sorrow,
Come in the rearward of a conquered woe;
Give not a windy night a rainy morrow,
To linger out a purposed overthrow.
If thou wilt leave me, do not leave me last,
When other petty griefs have done their spite,
But in the onset come: so shall I taste
At first the very worst of fortune's might;
And other strains of woe, which now seem woe,
Compared with loss of thee, will not seem so.

They went to the Midway Gardens (which was built by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1913 for symphonies and operas, but by the '20s was used as a cabaret featuring jazz acts like Bix Beiderbecke and Benny Goodman), leaving with two men named “Bill” and “Murph”.

What happened next was a “wild series of taxi cab jaunts” to south side cafes, but the girls weren’t inclined to share any more details with the cops, who were holding them till their story could be “verified”.
No follow up articles appeared afterwards, so they in all likelihood they were let go without being charged, leaving behind only their archive pic and a page 16 clipping in the Daily News.

Unknown parent • • •@marnanel no idea, but that's interesting ....
...actually, seems to have been in use a lot in the 19th century per Google ngram ... and might be making a comeback
(although I'm guessing the recent increase could be because the database of digitized texts is much larger in the last 20 years - not sure how that works though).
