US senator rejects prospect of Iran deal, urges tougher stance

US Senator Lindsey Graham pushed back against suggestions that Iran’s leadership could change course and be engaged diplomatically.

“Anyone who believes that the ayatollah is remotely interested in changing his ways does not understand the history of the ayatollah and the murderous regime,” Graham posted on X. “You cannot do a deal with evil. You have to confront it. In this case, that means standing behind the people of Iran.”

“I was unnerved by statements being made by people involved in the Iran file suggesting that if the ayatollah could change his ways, we might be able to reach an agreement with the regime,” he added.

Graham comments came after US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff told Bloomberg in Davos that Washington believes the standoff with Tehran could be “diplomatically settled” if Iran signals a willingness to change, without elaborating.

168 protests, 73 cities: Iranian diaspora takes uprising message worldwide

Iranians abroad staged at least 168 protests across 30 countries and 73 cities, turning the uprising inside Iran into a global wave of demonstrations that surged after internet shutdowns.

From Tokyo and Seoul in East Asia to Los Angeles and San Francisco on the US West Coast, and from Oslo, Stockholm, and Tampere in northern Europe to Melbourne and Adelaide in the Southern Hemisphere, Iranian communities took to the streets in what organizers described as coordinated expressions of solidarity with protesters inside Iran.

One of the largest gatherings took place in Toronto on January 16, where demonstrators marched despite blizzard conditions and subzero temperatures. Aerial images showed large crowds carrying Iranian national symbols and banners, making the event one of the most widely attended diaspora protests during this period.

Mette Frederiksen has issued a stark warning over Greenland, saying Denmark will not negotiate its sovereignty, identity, borders or democracy.

Frederiksen said any attempt to challenge these principles represents an undermining of the world order.

She added that the situation appears to be worsening, describing the current moment as a dark chapter for international stability.

Her comments come amid rising tensions over Greenland’s strategic importance and growing concern in Europe about challenges to territorial integrity.

Copenhagen has insisted that Greenland remains an inseparable part of the Danish realm and not subject to external pressure.

The wife of Renee Nicole Good - the 37-year-old Minneapolis shooting victim who attempted to run over an ICE officer - appears to have been outside the vehicle filming as her wife blocked ICE vehicles.

She is seen wearing a flannel shirt, walking around the vehicle and recording ICE officers.

She later runs back to the vehicle to check on Renee.

Afterward, she tells a nearby man, “That’s my wife.”

When he asks if she knows any of her wife’s relatives she could call, she responds, “We're new here. I don't have people... I can’t even breathe right now.”

Why was she outside the vehicle filming while her wife was blocking ICE officers?

On i24NEWS, journalist Laura Cellier reported that Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Narendra Modi, urging India to be next to recognise Somaliland.
This aligns with what has long been suspected. Recognition is moving through quiet leader to leader diplomacy, driven by facts on the ground stability, security, and strategic relevance. Somaliland isn’t emerging. It’s being acknowledged.

Over the past 24 hours, multiple reports indicate that Iran has taken steps consistent with preparations for an offensive operation.

These measures reportedly include clearing and rerouting flight paths away from major population centers; redeploying offensive assets from urban areas toward border regions; and reinforcing military bases with both active and passive radar systems.

The apparent objective is to secure clear air corridors for the launch of ballistic missiles and to prepare for potential Israeli defensive strikes aimed at neutralizing launch sites.

Taken together with recent Iranian military and political statements, these actions suggest preparations for a preemptive strike rather than a defensive posture.

Australia has updated its travel advisory for Iran:

Do not travel to Iran. If you are in Iran, you should leave as soon as possible. There are violent protests across Iran that may escalate without warning. The security forces' response to the protests has been severe, and many protesters and bystanders have been injured, killed, or arrested. Avoid large public gatherings, demonstrations, and protests, and follow the advice of local authorities. Australians, including dual citizens, are at high risk of arrest. The security situation is volatile. If you remain in Iran despite our advice, you are responsible for your own safety. The Australian Embassy's operations are suspended.
