How can it be that almost all members of the German parliament are opposed to it at a national level, yet Germany supports it at an EU level?

Btw I sent my bunch of mails to Germany and maybe I will contact the other non-german ones (depending on how my own capacities).
Anyways just keep emailing them and generally keep up the pressure, now we have to be VERY PERSISTENT if we want to save our online privacy and fundamental rights.

As for the LIBE, for Germany it's Birgit Sippel (SPD or CDU) and if I'm not mistaken, also Moritz Körner (FDP but he's also part of the EU-Parlament).

p.s. The name "Vernissage" may cause some confusion as it was used for two totally different projects, so here's an explanation to hopefully make things clearer:

- The developer makes two Fediverse things: an independent photography platform called Vernissage, and a third party Pixelfed app called Impressia

- The Pixelfed app used to be called "Vernissage" but is now called "Impressia"

thank you so much for explaining the problem from an affected person's perspective.

First, a quick note about Vernissage, which was the original topic of this thread. I consider it the best platform for photos in the Fediverse. The parent instance offers, among other things, the option to generate and customize alt text with AI support, and to my knowledge, other instances can also disable this option for themselves.

The question that arises in this discussion is: What should such alt text look like to be useful? We're talking about a platform for photography. While the comics example makes sense to me, I can't yet translate it to a photo.

I don't like doing pointless things, so I need an example of what proper alt text should look like to be helpful.

Could someone please look at the alt text in this example and correct it?

In a way this is perhaps something that techy sighted people can relate to:

A long time ago I used to handle a lot of tech support calls over the phone, so just audio. I needed people to describe to me what they saw, and the calls worked best when the people described just the relevant details.

AI/LLM alt text is the equivalent of difficult tech support callers who tell you the colour of their computer's mouse but not what is on their screen.

The trending page isn't the problem as that's trivial to fake, the problem from their POV was people using and following hashtags as it bypassed their control.

For example I saw some people who came here when Instagram switched off hashtag following last year, because this was one of the ways they kept in touch with people.
