It's not that hard. You could have done that already.
One way to handle it would be for our state attorneys general to file class action suits, particularly if private information is actually divulged. Then we, as members of the public, need only one point of contact.

@knordstrom @kataclyst I’ve given up on the federal government and I’m paying very close attention to the house bills that are introduced in my state because there has been an avalanche of them.
It’s not all bad, there’s some stuff to raise minimum wage and get rid of sub minimum wage, and to increase unemployment and workers comp.
But then there’s stuff to change access to special ed, to give doctors the right to arbitrarily decide who can have birth control or to not give it at all based only on their conscience, there’s a whole bunch of new restrictions they want to do regarding absentee voting, there’s just so much .
But I’m trying to pay attention to that because it’s easier to stop these things from becoming laws than it is to change them once they are.
The ratio of public comment against an abortion ban caused them to withdraw it (I think) It really helps to pay attention and to take two minutes to click “support” or “oppose” when they are taking public comments on these things.
So that’s what I’m doing, and I’m trying to spread the word so other people in New Hampshire know what’s happening so they can take two minutes and go online and with a couple clicks have their voice is heard.
Establishment Democrats don’t care what we think, but when we push back with 10,000 people making public comments against a ban and only 800 in support, it goes away.

In theory if you run your heat pump at around 18C consistently and have good insulation, you should at least break even compared to running a gas boiler to heat your home. But there is an ideal sweet spot for the unit price of electricity to be…can’t recall what it currently is.

I'm one of those who moved to newly created masto.ai to reduce load on mstdn.social when it had technical trouble. That was long ago.
The migration process is slow but it happens. One will keep on seeing new followers showing up that are actually old followers being migrated.
I remember being very careful about backing up my stuff but being confused about it. I got it right. But I wasn't that complicated.
Anyway, things get sorted out eventually. Life is not meant to be simple. 😀

Now that I think of it.. I have a feeling this is gonna be possible when the Masto team finds a way to transfer posts also since bookmarks go under that i believe

It has been so long since I've moved instances, I won't speculate on how it is supposed to work, but I will say that if you have the same number of people that you follow on each instance, then those people know (or will know) that you've moved and will shortly follow back!

The official documentation is a bit confusing; you have to do some steps in the right order.
You have to do them in this order:
1. Export the old account. This takes some time.
2. Create the new account.
3. Set up the alias.
"Profile moves can only be initiated when your two accounts have been aliased."
4. Migrate the account. This also takes some time.

You can also export Followers from the old account, and import them to the new account.
Some didn’t fire in my case, but I think most that wanted to follow continued to do so.

Most people on your follower list should transfer over in a few hours, but for some of your followers it may take days or weeks to automatically follow your new account. There’s nothing you can do to speed this up, because it depends on how busy their server is and how many tasks it has to do before it gets to your follower’s update. Busier servers may have longer processing queues and take longer to handle follower transfers.
However, your followers can skip this queue by manually following your new account. It won’t cause any problems if they do this. You can encourage them to follow your new account manually if you prefer.“
Of course, you have both counts not in your favour, both with the number of followers, and the size of the instance. I’d say not to panic yet… 🤗

I'm thinking of moving to another server because the 500-character limit is too restrictive. When I was starting out with Mastodon, I considered joining @fosstodon because I'm a developer, but at the time they had an English-only rule, which I think is unfair.

Yeah, it can be very slow, it can take literally a week for some followers to follow you.
It's slow because it's not just your server doing it, the other server has to handle it.
If it doesn't work the first time though, you can try again and again until it does work. There's more info about doing it again further down the page in the guide.

Give it time, it automatically updates on your follower's lists but it does it very very slowly.
Mine updated already, but it's a process of hours to weeks, depending on the number of followers to update and the load on the servers recieving the updates.
