"When Alicia Keys accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award...

From by Natasha Jokic (BuzzFeed)

When Alicia Keys accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, she said, "This is not the time to shut down the diversity of voices we've seen on this stage.”

β€œDEI is not a threat, it's a gift,” the artist continued. "The more voices, the more powerful the sound. When destructive forces try to burn us down, we rise from the ashes like a phoenix, and as you see tonight, music is the unstoppable language that connects us all.”

During the month of February, we are encouraging everyone to read the stories and learn the history of Black Canadian Veterans, in honour of Black History Month.

Stories like that of Margueite A. "Peggy" Downes. Who after graduating from Dartmouth High, "Peggy" enlisted as a driver with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Halifax. In 1968, Major Downes received a military decoration for 12 years of continuous service and exemplary behaviour.
