Was am Montag neben dem Naziaufmarsch in Sebnitz leider etwas unterging: in Bad Dürrenberg haben sich Montagabend ~200 Menschen mit Max solidarisiert, nachdem dieser den lokalen Montagsschwurblern in der Vorwoche eine Gegenrede hielt und im Anschluss (v.a. online) massiver Bedrohungen ausgesetzt war.

Das Grünflächenamt lärmt mal wieder durch die Siedlung. Aufsitzmäher, Motorsensen, Laubbläser ... Das ganze Arsenal im Kampf gegen Löwenzahn, Gänseblümchen und anderes unbotmäßiges Grün.
Als ich Kind war, gab es noch Bauern, die mit einer Sense gemäht haben. Die waren genauso schnell, leise und sie haben die Grasnarbe heil gelassen. Aber der Umgang mit einer Sense erfordert natürlich Können. Außerdem fehlt dieser moderne Touch Meister über dröhnende, stinkende Maschinen zu sen!

An Open Source Lösungen ist ja Moodle sehr weit verbreitet und dann noch Ilias an Hochschulen. Oder ist das dann schon wieder Overkill? Dann wäre vielleicht HumHub eine schlanke Lösung, wenn auch das eigentlich eine Community Plattform ist.

Egal wie die Sache ausgeht, egal wie schnell die Richterin wieder freikommt: es wird weder für Trump noch für seine Handlanger Folgen haben. Denn der Supreme Court - von ihm handverlesen besetzt - hat ihm schon vor der Wahl quasi unumschränkte Immunität für jedwede Amtshandlung zugesagt. Und Trump hat unmittelbar nach der Wahl gezeigt, dass er sein Begnadigungsrecht ohne jede rechtsstaatliche Rücksicht missbrauchen wird.

Es ist soweit. Ich habe ein älterrs Lenovo Tab E10, mit dem ich jetzt ein google-loses Android oder eine OS Software probieren könnte.

Die Software, die dadraif läuft kann man wohl auch selbst installieren (ich les mich da später mal rein)
Ich muss auch gucken, wie ich dann ohne Google account apos drauf krieg (ich hab gelesen, dass Google, wenn man über Drittshops lädt, auch gerne mal die IP sperrt. Das wäre nicht so geil, weil alle anderen Smartphones, Tablets, Computer ja erst mal noch google nutzen.
das tab e10 scheint nicht wirklich viele custom roms zu haben. In den xdaforums findet man normalerweise alles was es so gibt. Beispielsweise:

Aber so richtig alltagstauglich liest sich das da nicht ("random crashes") und aktuell ist die rom auch nicht.

Als noob frag ich mich grad: bringt es mir was, sollte das Tab zu alt sein und keine OS /Rom vertragen, wenn ich mich einfach aus Google abmelde auf dem Gerät?
Hab eh alles deaktiviert oder pausiert...nutze keine Google Produkte, wenn ich nicht muss, weiß aber nicht, ob das Dingg wegen der Vor installationen, die man ja net wegkriegr, trotzdem mit Google redet und Daten sendet
es spricht dennoch .it google hin und wieder. Wenn du das unterbinden willst hilft dir beispielsweise NetGuard. Das kann man so einstellen, dass bis auf eine von dir festgelegte Liste von Anwendungen nichts ins Internet bzw. nach Hause telefonieren darf.

Achja und installier dir gleich so oder so mal fdroid und den Browser Ironfox. Wenn fdroid installiert ist geht das mittels dieser Seite am einfachsten:

Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass du die Daten aber stark minimieren kannst, indem du das Tablet an einen Computer anschließt und von dort aus per Android Debug Bridge (entsprechende Option in den Entwickleroptionen aktivieren) den Bloat und das meiste von Google löschst. Denk dran, dass du einiges bei der Gelegenheit durch die Fossify Apps von F-Droid ersetzen musst.

@elischeva und NetGuard hilft enorm bei Stockroms. Mit der Debug Bridge kann man ggf. das Rom beschädigen. Man muss schon genau wissen was man tut imho

Wilder Tag heute, wurde von einer Frau auf der Straße angesprochen, dass ich schief laufe (Motorikschwierigkeiten sind seit meiner frühesten Kindheit ein Thema, gehört zu meinem Autismus). Und sie hat einfach nicht locker gelassen, war verbal übergriffig, auch als ich ihr sagte, dass ich behindert bin und daher diesen Gang habe. War super unangenehm und bin dann weiter.

Laufe ja selbst mit Orthese, da sieht man die Behinderung wenigstens. Aber blöde Sprüche gibt es da auch. Im Büro sprach mich eine Sekretärin mal auf meine Schuhe an, das ich ja froh sein könnte, das man jetzt auch so was im Büro tragen dürfte... Ja Mädel, die Trekkingschuhe sind halt die einzigen Schuhe wo die Orthese rein passt🤷♀️

@Kai Vermutlich wird es das auch weiterhin nicht in Österreich geben, weil die Regulierungbehörde uns keine Nummer ohne Festnetzanschluß überlassen würde. Deswegen gibt‘s auch kein Sipgate.at - da müsstet Ihr in Österreich mehr Druck auf die Behörde ausüben.

das Subrosa in der Dortmunder Nordstadt hat sich, wie viele andere Kneipen auch, im Laufe der Corona-Zeit eine ordentliche finanzielle Schieflage eingehandelt. Die versuchen gerade herauszufinden, ob man eventuell mit einem Förderverein den Laden am Laufen halten kann.
Geht da mal hin, kauft ein Pils und redet mit den Leuten. Ich hoffe wirklich sehr, dass es gelingt, den Schuppen zu erhalten, das ist einer der feinsten Orte in der Nordstadt.

I switched from macos to Linux because it can't stop babying users and being unnecessarily restrictive

I tried running a 2nd instance of Roblox simultaneously on macos 15 with another account but this shows up, if my mac can handle it then why can't it just let me do it? If I have two copies of an app like Roblox in separate User/Applications folders, macos moves them to the /Applications/ folder.
Sometimes it won't run apps claiming to be corrupted, so I then have to do sudo xattr -cr /Applications/someapp.app in the terminal and they run perfectly fine. It always nags me if I download apps from anywhere but mac app store. Some of these messages can only be gotten rid of by disabling system integrity protection, but then macos blocks you from running MAS apps due to having "permissive security".
I don't daily drive macOS anymore, I switched to Linux on my M1 mac where I can do whatever the hell I want.

There are several different distro's built on asahi IIRC, asahi is more of a Mac platform for distro's than a distro itself if I understand the project correctly.

I only know this because I've been seriously looking into running Linux on my M2 MacBook Air and trying to peel myself out of the Apple ecosystem but found there isn't many options right now where everything works -- especially TouchID. I'm not new to Linux, I just needed dependability and stability that I always seemed to mess up in my Linux days in the late 2000's/early 2010's and got sick of Windows.

I have definitely looked into Asahi awhile ago, and knew that was the big one. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that’s the only one, but didn’t know if maybe there were more.
Asahi is not only a distribution but a modified kernel which in theory can be added to nearly any Linux distribution
i remember on OSX elcapitan I just had to duplicate and rename an app to launch it twice and run it in parallel. But maybe you can't do it anymore ?

How to take unix and make it worst.
I don't like Apple, but I like Macs. Obviously macos is better than Windows, but it's also Linux without the time spent figuring out why something isn't working.
I say that as someone who's had a go with Linux a lot over the years, but for a daily work machine I need the reliability.
They can piss off with their iClouds and iOS stuff though.
I think this is only conditionally true... A good AMD based system on say Fedora with a GPU that's at least a year old ... you really won't have much of a problem on Linux in my experience or much to fix.
We've been mucking around with how to pre-configure Raspberry Pis after flashing at $DAYJOB and basically, the way the Raspberry Pi Imager works is that it writes a firstrun.sh onto the SD card which gets run during first boot.
How does it know to not run that script from the second boot onwards? Well, one of the lines in that script is:
rm -f firstrun.sh...it deletes itself while it's running. 🙃
What if the script fails?
Yeah, that is a very good question. It's one of the last commands in the script and initially I thought they had set up the script so that it would abort, if any of the commands before it would fail.
But then a colleague pointed out that it's actually the opposite. So, you can tell the shell to abort execution on error by running set -e. But what they had written at the top was set +e, which explicitly turns that off (even though it should be off by default).
The last command in the script is also exit 0, so it always indicates success.
So, yeah, they seem to have knowingly made it so that if the script fails, then it doesn't retry or anything. It tries to plough through as many of the commands as it can manage (ignoring any that fail on the way) and then it always deletes itself.
I guess, it's not as egregious of an assumption, because it only runs on a fresh OS. That's a pretty controlled environment to be executing in, so the chance of something going wrong is rather low.
Well, and the other question is what else would you do? If the script fails and you don't delete it, it's going to re-run on the next boot. What's going to be different on the next boot to make it succeed then? Might as well do as much as you can and then quit...
That is not a great solution
I would look into actual deployment tools. Stuff like Ignition, cloud-init and Ansible and your friend.
Oh yeah, we only want to pre-configure it with a static IP address on its Ethernet port, so that we can SSH into it in a controlled manner and then we intend to do the rest with a deployment tool.

You setup Ansible pull or you use something like Cloud init where you provide a declarative config file. I also think Dietpi has something simular

I think Roblox can be a better platform, moderation at the moment is shit. If they had good mods and they cared about the players, under a socialist system, then it would be a good platform.

I’ve never HAD to turn off system integrity for any reason, and I download all sorts of dodgy software from disreputable authors. It’s annoying as heck to micromanage permissions for non-MAS apps but I don’t think disabling integrity is worth it

While the app running permissions of macOS have become extremely obnoxious, you don’t need to disable system integrity protection. After macOS refuses to open an application, open system preferences -> security and there will be a button that says „open app anyway“, which you then confirm via password or fingerprint.
My memory is probably hazy (it's been a while since I used macOS) or it might've been removed but I recall that you were able to hold a key on the keyboard to bypass it as well. You'd have to right click the application, then hold down the key, and while holding it down click "Open".
Said key I believe was the "option" key
It's an extra step in macOS 15. You need to go into System Settings now.
Used to just be able to use the contextual menu to open it and get an approval dialog.

My dislike for MacOS started with this. I had a WordPerfect document, and WordPerfect, but it wouldn't let me open it because it insisted that it wasn't a WordPerfect document. And despite the fact that I could open it in WordPerfect on other computers.
It's always been this "I know better than you, idiot" mentality that drove me away. I went back, briefly, when businesses started letting employees request MacBooks instead of Windows - given those two options, OSX is preferable. Plus, it was Darwin by then, and the important UI - the shell - was essentially POSIX.
I well always resent MacOS having the temerity to think it knew better than me, especially in cases when it was wrong but you just could not force it to do something.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who played Roblox growing up... But like over a decade ago. Weird to see it still around.
Random memories:
- couldn't figure out how to drive vehicles (equip the drive tool and press T or something)
- there used to be a FREE currency called TIX that they gutted
- the old sound effects
- the old forcefield effect
- killing yourself precisely so that your head bounced onto the obby's next spawn point skipping the obstacle
-games were so much less commercialized, but they were also for the most part games made by other kids, they lacked the labor required to make a GAME game, but had charm. The fun games were FUN, and all they really offered in terms of monetization were VIP t shirts
- desert Base Battle, ultimate paintball, ultimate build, sword fight on the heights, galleons, work at Pizza place, disaster survival
- mashing yourself under geometry only slightly higher than you are, and then holding spacebar until you jump so hard your character model shoots out at a random tangent at Mach speed
- calling my friend to play, using the wireless house phone, holding it against my ear with my shoulder for hours until I got cramps
- constant status bars at the bottom from scripts included in free models "the maker of this place would like to thank xyzname for using their models!"
- magic path tools, rocket launchers, slingshots, bombs, swords
- Roblox is the reason I'm a programmer today, I was diving into LUA when I was a kid

I'd really love it if Ente would explain why they inserted that legal jiggery-pokery into their ToS, as it seems antithetical to the ethos (and counterproductive to the objectives) of a privacy-respecting company.
Because I would otherwise be a user already.
The problem is that you can't really replace Android without seriously limiting yourself when it comes to device choice (LineageOS helps, but not that much), and even if you do, F-Droid is no match for Play Store, not even close (yes, I do use F-Droid). So these two alone would take some serious dedication to "deGoogle", probably way beyond what most are willing to do. So you're still stuck with Google there.
And let's not even talk about replacing YouTube...
But yeah, for the rest, there are certainly valid options.

If the alternative to windows was just windows 11 without the adware and without win32, nobody would seriously expect it to matter. Removing GSF just makes the important stuff that make people need a smartphone unusable (e.g. banking). Having it means you're barely degoogled.

I think the FOSS Android builds deserve more credit than just being Android with a different theme. At the very least, "AOSP without Google crap plus some other niceties."
Unfortunately, there's not a lot else. I mean, yes, there's #pmOS and many other amazing projects, but given how much people live on their phones and depend on crummy things like their banking apps to work, there's not a lot of options.
It's a bad state of affairs.
If AOSP goes by the wayside, I guess I'll get a used iPhone and use it like a dumbphone. I know some folks that do that already.
I do love my FOSS Android phone, though. It's a pretty decent middle ground between privacy and "functionality."
P.S., ARM is a horrible platform. Just look at the progress of any project that tries to get a de-blobbed OS running on bare metal on any modern phone. They never make it particularly far. Even with blobs.

Not google is not enough for many now. Not US is where I and many more want to be. What makes Google, Meta, X etc a problem is that they are allowed to be a problem by US government that places everything below extracting profit and regarding its citizens as fair game.

For me it's not about privacy. It's about ownership and having options. Privacy is always mitigatable with enough knowledge of the tools you use but with license agreements and upstream control, it leaves little room for user control.
Mad props to people who are able to avoid having a cell phone. Or who are able to just use a "dumb" phone.

Every time you guys put up one of these posts it gets better and better. Personally I would include Yubico auth and Proton Mail but I can understand why you guys wouldn't want to include the latter.

Mein Papa (ü 80) nutzt ja jetzt #Linux und ist bisher positiv überrascht, wie leicht die Umstellung war. Jetzt fragte er mich, weshalb das nicht mehr Leute machen. Nunja...das fragen wir uns auch. 😁
Würde mich nicht wundern, wenn er jetzt anfängt Leute zu bekehren. In der Familie aber auch in seinen zahlreichen Ehrenämtern.
Ist ja auch ne gute Werbung, wenn ein unverkennbarer nicht digital-native sagt, dass es ihm keinerlei Probleme bereitet hat und er deshalb sein altes Gerät kostengünstig und nachhaltig weiter nutzen kann.
Ich hab sogar den Verdacht, dass die Umstellung auf Linux Mint kleiner war, als es die von Win10 auf 11 gewesen wäre.

Ich habe meinem Schwiegervater mit 74 jahren zu Mint gebracht.
Ja, er musste sich in ein paar andere Programme eingerbeiten, dafür gab es wieder andere, die es nicht unter Win gab und ihm sehr geholfen haben.

@crossgolf_rebel das glaube ich. Wäre da nicht das doofe #coreldraw , dann wäre es wohl alles kein Problem.
mein Schwiegervater hat sich in Gimp eingearbeitet.
Hat gedauert aber er wollte ja auch. Und für Hilfe war ich eben auch immer erreichbar

@crossgolf_rebel das wäre wohl eine Stufe zu heftig jetzt noch. Außerdem ist #gimp nicht direkt ein Vektorgrafikprogramm, obwohl es auch mit Pfaden umgehen kann
dafür nimmt man #InkScapeDas gibt es auch für Win und habe ich dort selber auch schon benutzt
Die Frage ist eben, wie weit er bereit ist sich auch "weiter zu entwickeln".
Ja, es ist wirklich nicht leicht, sich von bekannten Pfaden zu lösen. Und die Frage muss er selber beantworten.
Ggf kannst du ihm ja Mint mit den Programmen als Livestick zum ausprobieren fertigmachen und ihn probieren lassen

Ich habe früher schon nur mit InkScape gearbeitet und nie mit Draw. Habe das aber auch nicht beruflich gemacht.
Wie gesagt, wenn es unter Linux nicht passt, dann ist das so und man muss eben Win weiter nutzen.

Man kann wohl inzwischen bei Corel Draw als SVG exportieren (was man dann mit Inkscape importieren kann): forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/alt…
Ging früher nicht, aber Corel Draw ist bei mir auch schon Jahrzehnte her ... ich hab sehr alte Formate, die ich über Umweg "als PDF drucken" exportiert habe und dann das PDF nach Inkscape geladen hatte (nicht der empfehlenswerteste Weg, wenn man Alternativen hat).

Es hängt vermutlich auch sehr von den Dateien ab und der Anzahl und Komplexität der Elemente.
Allgemeine Erfahrung mit der Konvertierung von Vektorgrafik / DTP Dokumenten: Fonts sind immer ein Thema, die sollte man ins Linux in die passenden Verzeichnisse rüber kopieren (z.B. $HOME/.fonts), leider kann man z.B. bei Texten trotzdem damit rechnen, dass Umbrüche seltsam sind und manuelles Kerning evtl. nicht übernommen wurde, Schriften anders gross sind.

@crossgolf_rebel @kennfarbe Live-Sticks haben sich bei dieser Zielgruppe als nicht praktikabel erwiesen. Sie kommen einfach nicht auf die Idee, den einzusetzen. Das ist leider realitätsfern.
es ist wohl auch eher eine Frage: kennt man denjenigen dem man den Stick gibt oder eben nicht.
Bei denen die ich kenne und Sticks gegeben habe, hat es funktioniert. An Fremde würde ich gar nicht auf die Idee kommen

und ich über 5, von denen 3 dann bei Linux geblieben sind

@crossgolf_rebel ok. Kommt aus dem grafischen Gewerbe und hat früher sich in #coreldraw als DTP eingearbeitet. Hatte damals damit richtig Vektoren genau gearbeitet. Hatte es als Druckvorstufe benutzt.

@crossgolf_rebel ich werde mal selber es mir hier mal anschauen und versuchen #inkscape einzuarbeiten. Vielleicht werde ich ja überzeugt. 😉 Ich brauche normalerweise nur eine bash.
Für Druckvorstufe u.ä. verwenden viele Scribus. Das soll ein wenig dem alten Framemaker ähneln (ich hab Framemaker nie verwendet, deshalb keine Ahnung ob das stimmt).
Ich hab damit jedenfalls erfolgreich für einen Verein Flugblätter, Titelbilder für Vereins-Zeitschriften oder Konferenz-Proceedings und Anzeigen in Zeitschriften zusammengebaut - mit CMYK, Beschnittzugabe usw.
Vektorgrafik kam dafür aus Inkscape.

habe ich vor 20 Jahren bei meine Vater leider nicht hingekriegt. Proprietäre Software die damals nur unter Win oder Mac lief. Meine Mama war aber begeisterte Linuxerin. Hauptsache Computer. Ist ü80 und hat nur 7 Jahre Schule besucht. Ich staune sehr was sie alles mit dem Computer macht.

Wenn man Bock auf permanente Probleme und Meldungen und Werbung und Klickbait und Frustration und Sicherheitsbedenken hat und auf instabile, langsame Performance steht, dann installiert man seinen Lieben am besten das Betriebssystem 'Windows' von der amerikanischen Firma 'Microsoft' - und ansonsten halt Linix Mint oder so

Ich hab meinem Papa damals Ende der 90er Linux installiert¹, und der hat quasi nie was davon gemerkt² – abgesehn davon, daß er nie Probleme mit Viren etc hatte.
Und da er nicht Root ist, kann er auch nix kaputtmachen.

Aus den vielen Antworten auf diesen Thread schließe ich, dass es viele ältere Menschen mit Linux gibt. Aber warum gibts dann noch keine Senioren-Linux-Group? Ich mein das ganz ernst! Das wäre doch mega, wenn die sich gegenseitig supporten könnten.

Hatte ich mal bei meinem Schwiegervater probiert, der für seine Spiele noch einen Windows-Rechner hatte. Ultimativ ist es dann glaube ich an irgendwelcher Steuersoftware gescheitert.
Ich habe jetzt auch gerade endlich mal meinen Hauptrechner auf Linux umgestellt (vorher war die Skalierung von Citrix irgendwie immer der Showstopper) und ich bin ja relativ begeistert, wie viel besser die Usability als bei Windows ist. Leider habe ich ein paar Treiber-Zickereien 😒
@Starkimarm Ja stimmt. Mir ging es seit der Umgewöhnung immer mehr so, dass ich Windows krass unbedienbar finde. Es fühlt sich immer so an wie in diesen Räumen bei Indiana Jones, die immer näher kommen und einen erdrücken wollen.
Ich bin ja so komisch, daß tatsächlich die Unmöglichkeit, die Taskleiste an einen seitlichen Bildschirmrand zu legen, das größte Argument für mich ist, nicht das Upgrade von Windows 10 auf 11 zu machen ^^

Wenn Linux jemals eine auch nur annähernd akzeptable Alternative zu Affinity Photo und Affinity Designer bekommt, frage ich mich das auch. Bis dahin verweise ich bei dieser Frage wortlos auf GIMP (Schrott) und Inkscape (wtf).

Ein Freund, nur wenig älter als ich, hatte heute einen Herzinfarkt.
Dank schneller Reaktion des Umfeldes hat er überlebt. Er liegt auf der Intensivstation und hat schon Stents bekommen.
