The Year-Long Project-presentations are a highlight of the school year, featuring enriching talks open not only to the entire school community but also to all interested guests from the surrounding area.

Here, students complete a Year-Long Project instead of sitting traditional exams to earn their university entrance qualifications. Rather than rote-learning, students devote an entire year—alongside their regular studies—to a topic of their own choice.
In March 2025, for example, Livar from Vg2 introduced his topic: He intended to delve into the world of computer games.

🎓 One year later, Livar took us on a fascinating journey through his topic. We learned about the history of computer games, the debate between ludology (the study of game mechanics) and narratology (the study of storytelling in games)—a key discussion in game studies about whether games should be analyzed as systems or as narratives. For his project, he had also programmed two computer games, which he used as examples during his presentation. After the talk, guests were invited to try out the games for themselves.

The presentation concluded with his assurance that the work had been completed independently, followed by words of thanks—to his cat, Anubis, and others, for their mental support throughout the process.

Yesterday we examined the school’s beehives—checking queen cells, assessing the health of the colonies, and gaining fascinating insights. The linden trees and raspberry bushes have just begun to bloom, and bees and bumblebees are busy collecting nectar and pollen.

In some of the combs, we noticed reddish-brown, jelly-like deposits. To ensure everything is in order, we are now specifically checking for varroosis, foulbrood, nosemosis and mold or fermented feed residues.

It’s possible these deposits are simply bee bread (stored pollen mixed with honey), propolis (resin collected from plants), or pollen paste, but we want to be certain.
Until we have more information, we will continue to monitor the hives closely.

In the lesson block astronomy in the winterdarkness, the focus is on the universe, stars and their composition, as well as the individual planets with their unique properties. The history of discoveries also plays a role. Pupils unlock new knowledge and expand their horizons—echoing the spirit of the Renaissance, when humanity began to understand the world and the heavens anew.

The pupils create their own textbooks with texts and illustrations. By artistically and personally processing the material, they understand and internalise the content. The block concludes with an exam that tests their acquired knowledge—but the true reward lies in marvelling at the vastness of the cosmos and understanding our place within it.

For three weeks during the school year, our 3rd graders immerse themselves in the fascinating world of bees. In this lesson block, they explore not only the biology and ecology of these vital pollinators but also their cultural and practical significance—from pollination to honey production.

The children learn about the bees’ activities throughout the year: from their first flights to pussy willows and crocuses in spring, through swarming season and the building of food reserves in summer, to their winter rest, during which they sustain themselves on their stored supplies. They discover how a larva transforms into an adult bee, the roles bees take on throughout their lives within the hive, and how the queen bee functions as the heart of the colony.

Equally important is the process of pollination—without bees, there would be no fruits, no vegetables, and no nuts. The children understand how bees carry pollen from flower to flower, thus sustaining nature itself. The production of honey is also covered: from collecting nectar to thickening it in the combs.

Yet the focus isn’t solely on honeybees. The children also learn about other bee species, such as bumblebees, carpenter bees, and mining bees, and how each plays its own unique role in the ecosystem.

🐝 Through their familiarity with the school’s own bees, they have grown close to these creatures. They have observed beehives, examined flowers under microscopes, and some have even tasted the honey they produce.

In upper secondary school, students engage with "Ungt Entreprenørskap". They found real businesses, learning how creative ideas evolve into practical projects. This hands-on approach fosters entrepreneurial thinking and strengthens teamwork, creativity, and a sense of responsibility.

The program is structured into three main phases, reflecting the entire lifecycle of a business over the school year:

📌 Start-up Phase:
During this phase, students develop business ideas, form teams, and assign roles such as management, marketing, or finance. They draft articles of association, hold a founding meeting, and register their companies officially. In the process, they learn how to structure an idea and turn it into a concrete project.

📈 Operational Phase:
Here, things get serious: Teams produce goods or offer services, develop marketing strategies, and sell their products or services—even at fairs or competitions. At the same time, they manage basic accounting, calculate costs, and prepare an annual report.

🏁 Liquidation Phase:
At the end of the school year, the businesses are formally dissolved: Students finalize production, settle debts, sell remaining stock, and liquidate the company. A reflection on successes and failures, along with the preparation of a final report, concludes the phase.

"Young Entrepreneurship" provides practical life experience, promotes entrepreneurial skills such as creativity and problem-solving, and strengthens teamwork and social competence. At the same time, it integrates topics like sustainability, inclusive work environments, and ethical decision-making, preparing students for a responsible professional life.

🎓 By early 2026, the moment arrived: In the first week of March, the Årsoppgave presentations took place. How do thoughts become language? How do intonation and gestures shape meaning? How are the world’s languages interconnected? William took us on a fascinating journey through his topic.

“This work was completed independently and without assistance,” he officially declared at the end of his talk. Special thanks went, among others, to Louis, his loyal dog, who kept him company throughout the process.

Yesterday was the summer solstice—the time when nature is in full bloom and the bees are at their busiest. But what exactly happens inside and around the beehive during this season?

In our region, clover, lupins, elderflower, and wild meadow flowers are currently in bloom—a veritable feast for the bees! Raspberry blossoms and wild herbs like dandelions, daisies, and cornflowers are also particularly popular.
The bees are busy collecting nectar and pollen to build up their winter reserves. At the same time, they’re diligently raising new worker bees—this is when the hive is at its most active!

- Swarm control: This is still the time when bees may swarm. We need to regularly check for swarm cells.
- Prepare for honey harvest: The first early-summer honeys (e.g., from clover or lupins) can soon be harvested.
- Secure water supply: In dry periods, bees need access to clean water—a shallow dish with pebbles can help!

Even during the school holidays, our school beehive is well cared for: Members of the beekeeping group take turns visiting and tending to the hives. This way, the bees can continue their work undisturbed—and we’ll return after the holidays to a healthy, thriving colony!

The school year is over, but the fun at SFO continues! Even during the holidays, the children have a great time together.

Outside, they climb, dig, and they play in the little brook. The SFO gives the children space to try things out. They whittle in the grill hut, climb in the tree, or simply lie in the sun and dream. Today, a little camp was built under the treehouse – a place for adventure and imagination. They observed small caterpillars in the flowers, which will soon be pretty butterflies.

Under the shady canopy, they don’t just enjoy fruit and packed lunches together, but also share stories, laugh, they rest and relax. The sometimes quite curious seagulls don't see the food there.

Our blacksmithing teacher was presented with a fascinating piece of craftsmanship: a hand-forged door lock over 100 years old. One of its components is broken, and the question is whether it can be reforged by hand. The small spirals in the image are initial attempts to recreate the missing part—a testament to the precision and patience required to match the original smith’s work.

The lock features a "latch" mechanism, specifically the "latch spring" needs repair (the spring that holds the latch in place). This handcrafted, bent metal part often breaks in antique locks due to wear or rust. Since it’s a one-of-a-kind piece, replicating it is a true challenge, even for skilled blacksmiths.

This Is Special:
• Craftsmanship: Such locks were individually forged over a century ago—each piece is unique.
• Tradition: Repairing it requires not just technical skill but also a deep understanding of historical blacksmithing techniques. In the Middle Ages, blacksmiths were renowned for their intricately forged locks, which symbolized both security and masterful craftsmanship.

For the past three weeks, 4th-grade pupils have been focusing on buildings!
Among other things a bridge was constructed using diagonally arranged branches as supports, forming triangles—this makes it stable and strong enough to hold weight!
With sturdy branches, the pupils built a solid bridge over the stream.

What did they do?

• Sketching and planning: Together with their teacher, the pupils drew plans and took notes to design the bridge.
• Gathering materials: Outside, they selected and cut sturdy branches.
• Building the bridge: The bridge was built over the stream in the schoolyard. A key feature of such simple constructions is that diagonal supports make them stable—this helps distribute the weight better, so the bridge can hold more.

This week, the 7th grade pupils completed their geography block about Scandinavia.

The choice of materials and techniques was as diverse as the epochs themselves:
The following exhibition featured interpretations from all eras of art history, made from clay works, drawings, embroidery, collages, Lego constructions, and digital Minecraft creations.

Why this approach?
The theoretical lessons in the daily morning hours establish a solid knowledge base. The practical implementation allows pupils to actively apply and creatively deepen what they have learned – a valuable addition that connects theory and practice. Each course concludes with a test on the topic. The assessment includes the test, the self-created textbook, and the project work.

The visual blueprint of the film is created here. A good storyboard acts like a comic, helping to sketch scenes, plan camera movements, and design the rhythmic flow of the story.

Students learn how lighting, colors, and props bring a scene to life and enhance the film’s atmosphere.
Props:
Even small objects can deepen characters and plots—from an old book to a modern smartphone.
Directing:
Students practice guiding actors, coordinating scenes, and leading the creative process to bring the film’s vision to life.
Acting:
In front of the camera, authenticity and expression are key. Body language, facial expressions, and voice breathe life into characters and convey emotions to the audience.

The course culminates in the production of their own film exercise, where all these elements come together. Students also create a documentary project linked to film history—a creative and reflective way to engage with the medium.

When the hive becomes too crowded, the colony prepares to divide—a natural reproductive process that ensures the genetic diversity of honeybees.

1️Swarm mood:
Weeks beforehand, the bees get restless: they start building queen cells. Regular hive inspections help the beekeeper recognize this phase. Our students in the beekeeping group, under the guidance of the school’s beekeeper (a teacher), get to examine the hives and learn to interpret the signs.

2 The departure:
On warm, calm days, about half the colony leaves with the old queen—a breathtaking natural spectacle that showcases the vitality of the bee colony.

3️ The bee cluster:
The swarm gathers in a dense cluster near the original hive. Here, the bees rest while scouts decide on a new nesting site.

4️ Democratic house hunting:
Scout bees explore potential new homes. Through their famous waggle dances, they present their findings, which are then verified and either confirmed or rejected by the others.

5️ Moving into the new home:
Once a consensus is reached, the swarm moves into its new home. The bees immediately begin building comb, and life in the new hive gets underway.

The swarming season is a special phase in the bees’ annual cycle, which our pupils in the beekeeping group experience firsthand with great enthusiasm and curiosity.
