There definitely is something strange occuring this year. I went hiking to yanbaru last week and *none* of the iju trees were blooming (they're generally at their peak for the golden week). As said in the article, the irukanda were just dying (they're generally at their peak in march during my reconnaissance surveys). Even a non-botanist like me can see that there's something wrong...

in reply to Alexandra • • •Wish I could go. I went to the first "okinawa coffee forum" right around the start of COVID. There were a few seminars; coffee roasters and cafe stands; they were selling coffee plants; and you had the chance to try Okinawa-grown coffee (there's a few farms up there). We got a couple of really cute small coffee mugs too!
Sunday is all booked up though.
