Hi! I've been trying to import my IG archives for the last month. At first, only posts from 2018 to early 2021 were being detected. I read that others had similar problems. Two days ago I tried again and this time all files loaded (around 230). However, today I went to check the import status and the files no longer appear in the import queue nor have they been imported. Also, if I try to import again, only files up to the beginning of 2021 are identified. What can I do to solve this? 😅

Inviting foreigners to interfere in national politics is wrong.
That said, the point for Canadian voters to notice is that the Trump Administration didn't listen to any advice that they should pause the tariffs in order to help the Poilievre campaign. Pres. Trump doesn't want to help the #CPC, and may indeed (as he has said) prefer the Liberals.

@mpjgregoire Well, that’s because Trump isn’t a long term strategic thinker and only thinks about what will play nice to the people that support him.
Poilievre is at a fork in the road. He can go the Doug Ford route and be a hero, or go the Danielle Smith route and be the villain.
The only way he wins is to massively distance himself from the Maple MAGA crowd. But that might turn him into the next Erin O’Toole.
We'll see what happens over the course of the campaign. Mr. Poilievre will continue rejecting annexation, defending Canadian sovereignty, and criticising the policies over the last ten years that have weakened Canada economically.
Will that be enough to win? Maybe people won't listen, maybe they'll hear what they want to hear. Maybe they'll think Mr. Carney offers similar policies with a better CV. But it seems clear that Mr. Poilievre wants to follow the Doug Ford path to victory.
@mpjgregoire No disagreement with me that Trudeau failed on the economic front. Again, I was never a Trudeau fan. And many of the things Poilievre was saying were, in fact, true.
But now that Trudeau is gone and Carney is getting rid of Trudeau’s worst policies?
What I’d like to hear is how Poilievre plans to diversify Canada’s economy, defend our sovereignty,and build foreign alliances.
The other thing is too—maybe this can be a learning experience—Canada used to have its own brand of Conservatism. But over time, folks like Kevin O’Leary and Jordan Peterson have pushed the party closer to Republican alignment. So maybe it’s time for Diefenbaker-style Conservatives to make a comeback.

This is a wild news conference!
Canadian Prime Minister Carney’s first foreign meeting is with French President Macron.
Traditionally, the first meeting would be with USA or UK. But now his first meeting is with France.
Symbolically, this represents a big re-alignment geo-politically. And if you hear Macron’s words, you’ll understand exactly what this means: he says Canada and France have a shared cultural heritage and values.
But also, unlike Trudeau, Carney has an Anglophone heritage. Not Francophone. Yet here, he primarily speaks French in this news conference. Because the emphasis here is that French is a core element of Canadian identity.
What does this mean? Already, Canadian media are calling France—not USA—Canada’s closest ally. This has never happened in my lifetime.

@luiscarlosgonzalez Highly unlikely. That would create chaos. But it could mean more prominence of French language.
right now this is the proper play. Macron is the only leader who met with Trump a few weeks ago that publicly disagreed with him. Starmer refused to address the annexation rhetoric.
It is wild, and a completely different path than we’ve been on before but Canada has more reliable allies in the EU right now than anywhere else.

I just did a search on le Monde's front page and no trace of the word Carney. Right now it seems to me that this press conference is important for Canadians and nobody else.
And Macron is infamous for saying things and doing the exact opposite.
He's now very unpopular in France and always looking for ways to seize attention.
This is not to say that he didn't do the right thing this time (he did, both with Trump and Carney)

He was also, predictably, a huge proponent for Internment, and subsequent deportation even of prisoners born in Canada to Japanese parents. He was also an “Indian Agent”, an agent of the Canadian Government overseeing Residential schools.
I mark this day every year because we still “honour” this person with a street name. One day, hopefully we won’t… perhaps it will be the same day we stop repeating these mistakes.

I made a short video this morning to mark the anniversary of AW Neill’s first speech in the Parliament of Canada. March 16, 1922. Neill was a white supremacist and especially hated Japanese immigrants. He was a cheerleader not only for exclusion of Asian immigration, but their forced deportation including after internment in WWII.
Sound familiar?This morning I found an exchange between him and Prime Minister Mackenzie King. It was on a trade treaty with Belgium, but Neill turned it into a debate about immigration.

The school board removed his name from a school a few years ago — he was also an Indian Agent in charge of Indian Residential Schools in our area — but multiple city councils have not had the courage to do the same with the street.

The same feeling is happening in the UK, with the new government's plans coming into place.
It's not just the US that's gotten weird, but it's definitely going off the deep end at record speed.
There were concentration camps in Canada during the war, but they were taught to us as being a stain on our history. The thought of that happening again on this continent, and for more of a bullshit reason this time is chilling

When I was a teenager, we had a plan for when the Soviets launched the inevitable nuclear attack. We lived across the bay from an ANG base, so the plan was to throw some beers in a cooler, take the boat out into the bay, and watch the fireworks. That was all we could do.
It was a dark thing to grow up under the constant threat of nuclear war, but that was the reality. Now? Our President is literally siding with the Kremlin.

It may well get worse yet. The political situation is so dysfunctional that there are no longer any effective checks - it's become a near-dictatorship, as the president just decrees everything by executive order. The courts are ignored, and Congress is powerless. And the president loves a bit of demonstrative cruelty. He always ran on a platform of "I hate the same people you do, and will make sure they suffer."
I haven't lived there for 16 years now and it's been beyond strange for a while for me.

If you think the US had a non-fascist normal, you refer to a very short period, somewhere between the 1968s Hippie movement (which happened late in LBJ's and during Richard Nixon's presidency, and everybody agreed that this was a criminal thug, so there wasn't that much normality, either) and the end of Jimmy Carter's single term. k.d. lang – Hymns of the 49th Parallel (2004, Canada)
Our next spotlight is on number 522 on The List, submitted by swordgeek.
k.d. lang is a Canadian icon from my very own hometown (Edmonton, Alberta) whose varied discography includes country, pop, soft rock, jazz, blues, rockabilly, and folk. If you know anything about Alberta, it will likely come as no surprise that lang, even after having gained international recognition, Grammy awards, a sign in the town where she grew up (Consort), etc., was banned on local radio after her 1990 “Meat Stinks” PETA campaign, if not also after coming out as a lesbian in 1992. The province has since at least started to atone for their sins, as in 2013 the Edmonton-based Alberta Ballet put on “Balletlujah!”, a production honouring lang via an artistic-take on her upbringing in the province, complete with a gay love story. A documentary of the same name by the CBC was also released in 2015, celebrating both the artist and the ballet. Perhaps there’s hope for this province yet.
The album we’re looking at here, lang’s 6th solo LP, is primarily composed of covers. lang had a couple previous covers albums (her 1988 debut Shadowland and the 1997 Drag), but this one is a loving tribute to Canada, the title referring to the latitude line that essentially makes up the Canada/US border and the songs all written by Canadians (Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith, Jane Siberry, Neil Young, plus one by lang herself). So, I may have picked this one to spotlight right now for, uh, reasons.
If you like what you hear and want to check out lang’s other work, fun fact is that both Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman (i.e., of The Revolution and Wendy & Lisa) are on Drag (1997), and Wendy is also on Invincible Summer (2000)!

From what I've read vaccines are actually difficult to get and expensive in USA. Obviously the fake Covid vaccines are the exception because the government pays for them but most vaccines in USA are prohitiably expensive or unavailable for most people

OMG I was giving my dog a bath outside on a hot summer day & she was VERY vocally protesting & our neighborhood fox showed up VERY curious about what was going on. I figured it thought an animal was in distress that it could scavenge, but she totally sounded like a fox mating. The fox stuck around quite a while, within 3 feet of us. It was the last time she got a bath outside. I loved her tremendously but she was all about the drama.

I've also started using Startpage.com for search (European) and set the region to Canada so it only shows me pages that are Canadian, and it works better than other region settings I've used in other search engines. Not perfect, but quite good. I wish it had the option to show all regions except American sites, but I'm sure that's possible with an extension or something.

Celebrate and protect the CBC! They are biased, but all media is biased no matter how much it tries not to be, and the worst ones try to hide it. The CBC does not hide its bias but does not generally let it obscure the actual facts, and if you think it does don't even bother trying to argue with me you can just fuck right off and go watch your "truthful fox news" which certainly won't obscure any facts for you.
It is your job as an informed citizen and consumer of media to think critically about the inherent bias of every source and adjust your interpretation accordingly, not to ignore valid sources entirely.
I'm hesitant to pimp Ground News here even though I already sound like an advertisement for them, but I do have to point out they are also Canadian, so if you want a broader perspective maybe they can help with that. Full disclosure: I do personally have a Ground News subscription, and it has changed the way I approach news sources, but I honestly don't think anyone needs it as long as you are willing to think critically about the media you consume. The bias is usually obvious right from the front page. You don't have to be a genius to put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out what narrative a given news source is trying to promote.

I have always found the CBC to be reliable as they will post corrections when they get their facts wrong.
I tried Ground News for awhile but found it just as easy to compare headlines between mainstream and independent news outlets to figure out the biases. Though I agree it is an excellent source.
How does one watch/support the CBC from outside the country, one wonders.
Try the apps, they might work? Not sure. There's Gem which is video and CBC Listen which has news, great radio journalism and podcasts, and music playlists.
If that doesn't work just seek out the many CBC podcasts, I recommend starting with Ideas for lecture or documentary style, or Quirks and Quarks for short form science journalism.
We absolutely need to get rid of oligarch US media, they want to annex us!! We cannot allow their toxic media to poison more Canadians against Canada. We have to fund the CBC, and sideline foreign owned US media somehow.
What about people born in Canada that say 100% of all Canadian news do not reflect any of their views?

Small anecdote regarding Food Rescue in our town.
We have a bakery that we've started working with. They bake fresh each day and at night they would have to throw away anything they didn't sell.
So we partner with them every evening and pick up the baked goods that they would normally throw away and either take it to another org that makes hot food for folks or to the free fridges in town for people to pick up on their own.
They call us each evening before close to let us know if they have any food for pickup. If they don't call, it's generally because they sold out that day (yay for them!).
An interesting pattern emerged though. We would get regular calls on some days and other days were completely silent. We would never receive calls on those evenings. Week after week.
So I asked about it one time when doing a pickup and the baker told us that those days were staffed by a woman who had experienced a lot of trauma. She specifically would not call even if they had food to pick up because she never wanted to be in a position where she was alone with a man after close.
That seemed very prudent, reasonable, and safe of her given her circumstances and experience.
We took the time to learn about our neighbors and worked with the woman to meet her needs for safety and comfort. We found out that she was much more comfortable with another woman or femme presenting person doing the pick up. We found a couple of gleaners that were willing to do the pickup and they went over during business hours when it was slow and just got to know the baker.
They built trust and established safety guidelines and now we have regular calls during these evenings as well.
The lady was very very very happy that she could help feed people and was very happy that we were willing to work with her to find a solution that brought her comfort, peace of mind, and actual safety.
I thought y'all might like to hear that. We'll find a way to take care of everyone.

What a great story of human kindness! Even if we don't know each other, I would like to say thank you 🙏
I worry this story is approaching "orphan crushing machine" areas - in that it's a "feel good story that has bad things at its heart", namely past trauma and hunger.
But we're dealing with a lot of pain and fear and harm and are fighting back against that.
Just seeing the joy on this bakers face and the joy on the gleaners face when they interacted and the joy that folks had when they picked up the food from the fridge bolstered me and gives me hope.
The world and several people in it can be terrible, but we can push back, fight back, and protect ourselves and take care of our neighbors.
And we are.

IMO, "here's how we dismantled an orphan crushing machine" is still a good story to hear in a society full of orphan crushing machines. It's always nice to be reminded that we win against the orphan crushers sometimes.

@NilaJones @Hex Yeah. I saw: "Here's how some people who had been through the orphan-crushing machine got to show up in their community more *whole*" and that is fiercely good stuff. Sometimes that *is* the crushing thing about trauma, the idea that you're now stripped of -- all these social roles you could fill? That you're stuck indefinitely in "victim"? Something that reinflates how many sides of yourself you get to be is actually -- yeah. 🙂
I thought I was the only one who has an irrational fear of having men come in when I am alone.
@EugestShirley - I think it's a very normal and rational fear to have of being alone with someone who may be bigger than you and have more testosterone (denser muscles, stronger, etc) than you.
Like, there are plenty of women or AFAB who can beat up plenty of men or AMAB.... but even having to weigh that risk model and calculate whether you are comfortable fighting off another person when alone, is a tall order.
Add to that past experience or trauma that presented this very real threat scenario, then, yeah.... trust your gut. It's not irrational at all.
@EugestShirley That's a rational fear borne out by statistics, even without factoring in unreported incidents. The unsafe men can very cleverly mimic safe men, and there is no signal that can be devised that they would not eventually co-opt.
No employee, woman or not, should be alone in a workplace with someone they are not comfortably safe with. It's great that the gleaners found a workaround, but the bakery should be supporting their worker, first.
@log @EugestShirley - The bakery was supporting their worker. They didn't require her to work with our food rescue team (nor should they have). We all sat down together and found a way to move forward. But if we didn't find a way to meet her safety requirements, we just would not have picked up food on those days. Simple as that.
@log @EugestShirley - She does not close alone. The gleaning happens just after they close. So for the business portion, she has support.
We considered possible solutions, including (but not limited to) having all of the people that were employed stay for 15 extra minutes while we gathered up the extra baked items.
But in the end - with this specific example - it was more easy for us to provide gleaners who made the baker feel safe than it was for the business to pay everyone extra just to wait for us to gather up their food.
We try to make it easy on the folks that produce and contribute food. So we opted with this solution here.

Thanks for sharing the story, and props for having the patience to work through the gatekeeper's problems and find a solution that works for everyone. I don't think I have it in me to do the same in your place, but I hope someday I could.
@tuftyindigo - You don't have to act in the same way. You can find a way for you to build out a better situation in your town with who you are and what you have at your disposal right now.
An example for me: I reallllly suck at political activism. It destroys me. I've had a lot of recent bad experiences to where I can't enter into that world again.
so.... I don't try...
I have plenty of friends in mutual aid and community where that's their thing. And I facilitate them.
They, in turn, often don't want to or can't create a group or initiative out of nothing. I'm good at that. They join me after I've set things up for them.
Plenty of and plenty of and plenty of people in my town can only do a single food pick up once a week. they don't go to meetings. They don't talk in chat. They go down the list that we built. Pick one place to glean from. They go, pick up the food, drop it off, in an out in 20 minutes, and call it good for the entire week.
They're the BACKBONE of what we do.
So... do not try to do everything. Just find the thing you can do and do it as sustainability as you can. Don't burn out. Don't go outside your comfort zone. Make the situation fit you... not you fitting the situation.

I love this story because it's a really beautiful example of how accommodations for one benefits all. Taking the time to work gently with someone who has experienced trauma means more days when food is available to many who need it, and the givers get to make another beautiful connection. I love it when kindness wins.

Predictions for Vixy tomorrow? Guess it will depend on Asian and European markets. Sounds like he isn’t backing down on tariffs, and I wonder if the markets will realize he’s serious about it.
@SteamDieselEV I am trying to figure that out as well. There’s been an incredible amount of selling in the market lately, and based on the huge trading volume of vixy today, I have a feeling that the markets will be up tomorrow and vixy will be down, the magnitude of that will depend on weather the commerce secretary’s comment about walking back the tariffs tomorrow turns out to be true.
If I see vixy go down, I’ll very likely use that as a buying opportunity, because I think the fundamentals of the economy are just horrific in getting worse
aye, I think the new base for the VIXY is likely around 45 - 48. However, that’s just a feeling based off some of the volume spikes I saw. The markets are a bit more tuned up that “alittle bit of pain for a billionaire” != “a little bit for Joe Q Public”
ADP private payrolls will be announced before the bell. Last month 183k forecast 162k. I think we might see some lower numbers, but hard to say. Likewise, I don’t know where this economy is heading.
@SteamDieselEV I think investors are looking for signs of weak employment because that will trip one of the criteria for the fed to look at getting back on the rate cutting program, which is apparently the most important thing in the world lately, so weak employment numbers may actually cause stocks to go up

Hey I love it, I was just wondering when I type the “+” for new conversation if I only type certain single letters like only “w” or only “e” and wait for the suggestions to populate, the app will crash but if I type “wi”or”we” something, the app will still be able to suggest users and won’t crash, and I was wondering if it would be possible to fix? And also separately when you’re messaging someone would it be possible to change the “conversation” name at the top to the other user’s name?
