Danielle Smith really shit the bed with the Breitbart interview, admitting she asked Trump to influence the federal election in Poilievre’s favour.

Now she’s attempting damage control, and nobody’s buying it.

Poilievre must be having a heart attack.

cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/al…

in reply to M. Grégoire

@mpjgregoire No disagreement with me that Trudeau failed on the economic front. Again, I was never a Trudeau fan. And many of the things Poilievre was saying were, in fact, true.

But now that Trudeau is gone and Carney is getting rid of Trudeau’s worst policies?

What I’d like to hear is how Poilievre plans to diversify Canada’s economy, defend our sovereignty, and build foreign alliances.

The other thing is too—maybe this can be a learning experience—Canada used to have its own brand of Conservatism. But over time, folks like Kevin O’Leary and Jordan Peterson have pushed the party closer to Republican alignment. So maybe it’s time for Diefenbaker-style Conservatives to make a comeback.

in reply to Chris Trottier

Diefenbaker, eh?
m.youtube.com/watch?v=wqyqq9-M…

(It's only 1 minute.)

The core of the Conservative Party of Canada is people who cheer whenever Diefenbaker is invoked. Most of the voters may have forgotten the Chief, but not the people who knock on doors, put up signs and go to conventions.

This is a wild news conference!

Canadian Prime Minister Carney’s first foreign meeting is with French President Macron.

Traditionally, the first meeting would be with USA or UK. But now his first meeting is with France.

Symbolically, this represents a big re-alignment geo-politically. And if you hear Macron’s words, you’ll understand exactly what this means: he says Canada and France have a shared cultural heritage and values.

But also, unlike Trudeau, Carney has an Anglophone heritage. Not Francophone. Yet here, he primarily speaks French in this news conference. Because the emphasis here is that French is a core element of Canadian identity.

What does this mean? Already, Canadian media are calling France—not USA—Canada’s closest ally. This has never happened in my lifetime.

Sorry, I misread your post, they were Macron’s words, not Carney’s. And he was in Paris wasn’t he? Should we be surprised that when Carney did speak, that he spoke French?

As he is a technocrat rather than a politician, I would expect Carney to favour institutions over elected politicians.

The G7 "...is organised through a presidency that rotates annually among the member states, with the presiding state setting the group's priorities and hosting the summit; Canada presides for 2025."
The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, will have extended the invitation in his position as the presiding officer of the G7.

🇨🇦🇺🇦 Zelensky: I spoke with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.

I thanked Canada for its assistance, particularly for the defense packages and support of our energy sector.

PM made the right points about how we need to step up pressure on Moscow. The shadow fleet, the banking sector.

Canada is interested in military-industrial and defense cooperation. We have gained significant experience in the production of EW systems, long-range missiles, and drones. Ukraine is ready for joint production.

in reply to MAKS 24 👀🇺🇦

That's heartening, but also, really interesting. I suspect the Canadian government knows it needs to radically and *very* swiftly develop its EW and drone defence and offence capabilities.

There was a time when Canada sent military advisors to train the Ukrainian armed forces. Now, the roles are reversed...Ukraine has the most experienced, battle-tested army and air force in the world, and we need their people to train ours. #cdnpoli #ukraine

In retaliation for the Associated Press’ refusal to call the Gulf of Mexico to, well, you know, the Trump administration has barred the AP’s reporters from the White House press pool and events.

The AP has been a member of the White House press pool since it was founded in 1846. Having earned the honor of 59 Pulitzer Prizes, the AP is respected for its journalism with a worldwide reach of over 4 billion people per day.

The First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press and the right to free speech. The Fifth Amendment grants due process, and the AP was not given a formal opportunity to challenge the ban before it was implemented.

The AP has sued to regain access, arguing that the administration’s goal is to coerce journalists to use “only government-approved language” in reporting.
