A closer look at Dellinger v. Bessent, a case key to understanding Trump’s dictatorial aspirations
This is a longer post than my usual, due to the significance and intricacy of its topic. On March 1, 2025, Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the District Court of the District of Columbia issued a critically important opinion.Heidi Li Feldman (Heidi Says)

If anyone's been looking to get rid of American social media or just looking for a good Canadian Pixelfed server, pixelfed.ca just launched.
It's run by Fedecan, a registered Canadian non-profit.
They also run lemmy.ca and I can personally vouch for the team being both great admins and terrific people.

Oh, no! Director David Lynch has died!
He is a major reason for my lifelong love of movies, after I saw Elephant Man as a kid. A decade later, while a film student, I hustled my way into a job as a PA on the New Orleans on-location set of Wild At Heart. There I had the dream job of fetching Mr. Lynch his fruit smoothies and driving Nick Cage from his hotel to the set. Watching Lynch work on set and direct his actors was a huge privilege. He was incredibly improvisational, sometimes shooting the scene multiple times, recruiting odd bystanders and inserting them into the set.
I only knew him for a minute, a long time ago, but I am really going to miss knowing David Lynch is in the world.

welcome to 2025, a harbinger of things to come
it's not humorous, a #cybertruck burning in front of a #trump tower, because it's being investigated as #terrorism- there was an explosion, 1 dead and 7 wounded. no one knows if the explosion was generated by the cyberstuck or by a bomb, as of yet
however, this reaction from a witness: "It was like a boom-boom-boom, and it almost sounded like a rolling garbage dumpster"

Another slimeball location-data company sells your doctor visits to the police. Grotesque and dangerous contempt for privacy -- and women in red states will surely become prime targets.
Burn this industry to the ground, I'd say, but Congress would have to act, and Congress is hostile to your privacy.
Fine reporting, as usual, from @404mediaco

Location Data Firm Offers to Help Cops Track Targets via Doctor Visits
Fog Data Science is a location tracking company that takes data harvested from smartphones and makes it accessible to cops. A document obtained by 404 Media shows the company explicitly says it will use doctors visits to unmask a target if needed.Joseph Cox (404 Media)

Avoid toll roads. In fact, just don't use your car because GM and others sell the location data, and license plate readers are everywhere. Don't even take the bus unless you can pay with cash. Of course, don't take a ride share.
And bring a change of clothes and wear a mask, because Ring cameras are ubiquitous.

Scathing.
The final COP29 agreement DOES NOT EVEN MENTION making a transition away from fossil fuels.
Our so-called leaders will *never* do what is needed. They’d rather burn the Earth and boil the oceans than turn away from capitalism.

After every COP I find myself thinking: "maybe now people will realise that the *point* of these things is to keep us hoping - to give us an excuse for our own inaction".
