Dear moss lovers, would you like to share what in moss it is that brings you joy?
For me it is many things, its tiny magnificent beaty, its resilience and patience, how they are tiny little eco systems or forests, how they hold water. How they are ancient in their own way.
This patch btw, is in one of the busier streets of Amsterdam, close or in the center, loads of commuters every day. I wonder if any others stop to appreciate the beauty.

That's one of the things that I love about it too - it's like a tiny understory forest, and it and various mycelia keep the forest floor safely recycling nutrients and water.
I may or may not have taken a dreamy adventure through it once while on shrooms lol
I love all the different textures, the way it forms a tapestry on the forest floor, clinging to trees, covering tree stumps and dead branches lying around. What's not to love about moss.
Aside from simply being beautiful (you either see it or you don't), moss rewards both distant and close viewing.
At a distance it is a soft, green, uniform cover. I have seen moss on rocks and logs make them look as if they were upholstered in the most plush green velvet.
Close up, moss is like a tiny garden or forest, each part a miniature plant.
And on a purely practical level, how else would we learn how to use the macro feature on our cameras? 😉
Moss is a big cosmos in small things. I like its diversity and strength. Even when people put their feet on it, it continues to grow, it's like a sponge: absorbent and soft and it's a cleaner in nature. #Mosstodon

too many things to list, but I like how they create cool, wet ecosystems underneath themselves that are good environments for other plant roots and some seeds. I like that they look like little forests. I like that they are soft. I like how they can come back from epic dryness just with a good rain. I like that you can move a moss mat and it'll keep growing in the new location. I like that they grow slowly, but also, next thing you know, an area that was bare is now covered in moss.
The #crows have started nesting! You can see them all over the place finding the perfect sticks, clumps of soil, and bits of moss and foliage. It's hard work so toss them some peanuts or cheesies.
For most of the year they have a shared roost (in Burnaby) but in the spring they nest in their territories to lay eggs and raise the baby crows. They usually lay eggs in April, which is when they'll start dive bombing people who get too close. If you're ever getting "attacked", just give them some food - crows won't dive bomb their friends.
Once the fledglings have learned to fly and mastered crow basics, they'll all abandon the nest and return to the shared roost at night.

@greensofshade I didn't miss this, although I now wish I had. The problem with Merz is that he falls short even in this regard. While Trump at least seems to be able to appeal to the less-educated masses, Merz has about as much appeal as the husk of a desiccated shed snake skin. He didn't get elected for his appeal, but despite it. Of course, in all other regards he is as much a failure at everything as Trump—including his inability to face an uncomfortable truth.

This in now officially the time of year that I have to actively resist starting seeds. It feels like it might not be too early... but it is unless you want crazy leggy plants. But I'm starting my #garden plan today. The plan's to do some succession planting to get some early season, main season, and overwintering crops. I don't believe that the average German voting afd is a Nazi like many far left people say, I think that, that is just insulting the intelligence of the average German. In many cases it requires going deeper at the root of the problem, being, fear, fear that your children won't be able to afford groceries, fear that your children could be murdered at school, fear that the once politically strong but peaceful Germany is not even asked an opinion on the war that is happening next door.
My point is that people are just tired of all of that and are looking for change, any change, that's what happened in the United States really because Trump is far from having the best policies. To me it is clear that the same is happening here, unaffordable houses, irrelevance on the political stage. Now wherever it is good or bad, I am neutral, it doesn't matter to me all that much, I don't have the citizenship, I'm really just stating my opinion on the why this is happening.
(As a non-German) Agreed, but strategically I'd advocate more against BSW than AfD at this point. The far right is in and at second place anyways and a concerted effort in messaging might keep them down a couple of seats at most.

Unbeknownst to me, Norn left us the same day this post was published, due to the health issues they had gotten diagnosed just before Hurricane Helene hit their home and upended their health care.
Norn was such a beautiful, big-hearted, passionate, and unique soul. I’m so very happy to have met them through this project, and am grateful they shared their art, their talent, and their life with us. Rest in peace, my friend, you are already dearly missed.

It’s been a while since we last were treated to a piece from our resident artist, @n69n (aka illustrator Norn Cutson). This is in fact the last piece we have from Norn (at least for The List as it currently stands), so I was sort of selfishly hanging onto it, to save for a metaphorical rainy day. Well, no time like the present. Also, I picked today because it’s the 15th anniversary of the utterly brilliant Lee Alexander McQueen leaving us. McQueen designed the satin kimono dress Björk is wearing on the album cover, specifically as per Björk’s request to make her look like a warrior who fights with love, and to reference a photo of model Devon Aoki in a McQueen dress (taken by Nick Knight, who was also the photographer for the album cover). Echoes of McQueen’s collaboration with Björk for Homogenic would then be seen in his collection that soon followed, the A/W 1997-98 “Eclect Dissect” couture collection for Givenchy (who he was the head designer for at the time). I know we’re here for the music, but Björk and McQueen are two of my favourite artists from any medium, and them working together is just one of those moments of absolute magic.
Anyway, the cover tribute seen below is number 28 in Norn’s fabulous “Record Collection” series, which imho further increases the magic of this moment (I, for one, have a print of this piece right by my record player). Make sure you check out their previous spotlights here, as well as Norn’s Redbubble shop to see some of their other work (which includes some other wonderful Björk pieces). And I suppose I should say something about the music? Homogenic was Björk’s third studio album, and, nearly 30 years after its release, the tracklist essentially reads as a greatest hits list. A departure from the more danceable art pop of Post (1995), this album amps up what Björk and other Icelandic artists do so well, i.e., translating the breathtaking beauty of their country into sonic form. While the album is primarily electronica/trip hop, the real standout features are the gorgeous strings provided by the Icelandic String Octet and, of course, Björk’s inimitable vocals. It’s emotional, it’s dramatic, it’s a pure masterpiece.
If you haven’t heard this album before, you’re in for an absolute treat.
