The reason red/yellow bell peppers cost more than green bell peppers is the bright ones are ripe.
After the plant produces them, its done. No more, or very few peppers. The green ones don't trigger that. You get more of the green unripe ones because the plant keeps churning them out.

the acoma software is just acoma, anything else on top is probably a fork. From what I know, the web interface for acoma is good, but I don't know how good or how accessible. My opinion would be to pick an instance at random, then try it out without logging in, to see if the ui works for you...if it's accessible enough and so on, then log in. Acoma does have mastodon compatibility, so you can use mastodon clients with it, but follows on acoma are plane follows, so if you follow someone, you see their posts too, it's not just a number going up or something like that, if that's what you ment.

\Let me clarify a point. |I'm not one of these idiots who don't believe in clear winners. \But |I am literally dealing with some of the greatest singers in the world, particularly during the opera reviews. So sometimes, it really is difficult to choose between one singer and another, particularly when, as here, their voices are so similar, or their performances are so special that one or the other could honestly take the title. So that is what is going on when I choose one over another.

African Woolly-necked Stork

A dark-brown stork with green-bronze iridescence on the wings and breast. It has a distinctive white ruffled neck, a white tail, and a dark salmon-tipped bill. Resident and migrant. Individuals and small groups forage in rivers, shallow wetland margins, urban grassy areas, and flooded grasslands for insects and small vertebrates. May gather in groups of several hundred when conditions are suitable.

Here on the Fediverse, your account's reach depends on your followers rather than your server's size.

Even if you're on a tiny server, if you have followers from lots of other servers your posts will reach lots of people.

Here is why: If just *one* person from another server follows you, your posts and account will start showing up on that server and be searchable by *everyone* on that server.

@n_dimension @catsalad I could totally believe that with my dearly missed Archimedes. He was constantly on the search for new places to nap, with a preference for the dustiest dark places he could find(and the occasional very high and sunny places like the greenhouse cat walk). With few exceptions, if a door anywhere nearby was opened, Archie tried to get into it if he could.

@blogdiva @montaagge @catsalad very much so! That pic was from Summer 2020, around when he started slowing down. I would go out with him in the afternoon, walking with him as he sniffed all his favorite spots in the yard, ending with a sit down in the grass as I pet him in the warm sun. Also, there was bits of catnip practically everywhere in my living area at the time, which he passed through to go outside.

I love this time of year, a time for fireside planning of forthcoming adventures, whilst I am in good health and reasonably fit. Main trips this year hoping to be to the Pyrenees in June (backpacking 100km+, 3000 "Ibones" Lakes), Dolomites in July (Via Ferrata, Pale di San Martino) and all of November in El Chalten, Patagonia (peaks, passes and glaciers).

St Naum is buried in the church of the Monastery of St Naum, in Ohrid, North Macadonia. Naum was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and played a role in developing the Cyrillic and Glagolitic alphabets. He founded the monastery - on the shores of the beautiful Lake Ohrid - in 905 and died there in 910. A local legend claims that if you place your ear on his tomb, you will hear the saint's heart beating, over 1000 years after his death. It has been suggested this drumbeat is the result of local geological phenomena. #saints #folklore #history #gothic #weird #churches #death

Lawrence's Goldfinch

Unique among goldfinches because of its mostly gray body. Male has black forehead and throat, yellow breast, and complex black and yellow pattern on wings. Female is duller with ghost of male's pattern. Found in open grassy woodland. Uncommon, but sometimes travels in large flocks, especially in fall and winter. Highly erratic, moves around a lot from year-to-year; difficult to track down with much reliability. Feeds on seeds. Sometimes visits feeders.

Alexandre Dumas, fils's stage adaptation of his 1848 novel La Dame aux caméllias is premièred at the Théâtre du Vaudeville in Paris.

Shortly thereafter, Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi set about putting the story to music in the 1853 opera La traviata, with female protagonist Marguerite Gautier renamed Violetta Valéry.

Brown-throated Sunbird

This medium-sized and relatively short-billed sunbird is common throughout much of its range in open forest, forest edge, and urban areas. Look for male’s brown face, reddish throat, and blue-green crown and back. Female is plainer: note yellow underparts, gray-brown head, and faint “spectacles.” Compare with rarer Red-throated Sunbird. Sings from an exposed perch, giving a high, somewhat sparrow-like “sweet-sweet!” Calls include high “tseep” and “sweep.

Near infinite supply of green onions. Harvest by cutting off above the bulb and it will regrow. These are all originally from grocery store bought onions. If you are frugal and flexible in your diet (ie not a picky eater), you can just use these like normal onions, too. I have way more of these than we use. #gardening

my neighbor taught me how to grow sprouts in mason jars on my counter with nothing but seeds and water, and I’m so excited, I have some cabbage that should be ready to get sun for a day tomorrow and then I can eat them, and I just started some radish sprouts that should be ready in five days.

I think I’m going to do some bean sprouts next for protein, and broccoli because there’s something in it that’s supposed to help with MECFS. Although the cabbage that should be ready soon contains that same ingredient

I don’t know, I’m just delighted that I don’t have to buy dirt and rely on the sun to get some vegetable nutrients.

I got a plant for £1 from the garden centre at the end of the summer. It was a tomato plant and I though, hey, why not...

It grew...
and grew,
and grew...

and the autmun came and I brought it inside my kitchen.

I asked advide. People told me it might die -
or maybe it would live?

It lived.

Today, on Feb 1 these are the tomatoes I picked.

It is still flowering and continues to fruit.
It reminds me to keep on keeping on.

What is the origin of the word "mainframe"? Digging through archives, I traced it back to 1953. The IBM 701 computer was built from "frames": power frames, a storage frame, a drum frame, and the main frame. This 1953 drawing from the Installation Manual shows the dimensions of the "main frame". 1/n

Mussau Fantail

A beautiful bird, mostly reddish with a black head and chest. Face is mostly bright white with a thick black eye mask. Cinnamon below. Long tail is often fanned. The only fantail in its range. Reliant on forest, but tolerates degraded areas. Song is an explosive melodic “pwit-pwit-chiddley-diddley.” Most common call is a soft, chattering “tchu-tchu-tchu.

I think I shared this tip before a year or so ago, but here it is again: If you store lettuce (like a head of red leaf) upright in the refrigerator with its bottom end in a container with a little cold water, then cover the whole thing loosely with a plastic bag (like a mini greenhouse), it will last longer and will even keep growing a little bit. All the tiny leaves in the middle of the first photo are newly grown after about two weeks, and are incredibly fresh and crisp. 🥬

This works with a bunch of celery, too, and herbs like cilantro or parsley. Just change the water if it gets a little old or discolored.

The Anthreptes malacensis or Brown-Throated Sunbird is native to Southeast Asia, in places such as Myanmar, the Lesser Sunda Islands, and the Philippines. They were described by Italian physician and naturalist, Giovanni Antonio Scopoli, also known as Johannes Antonius Scopolius, dubbed the “first anational European” and the "Linnaeus of the Austrian Empire." These eye-catching birds have yellow upperparts, multicolored wings, green and purple upperparts and iridescent upperparts.

Outside Landers, California, is a bizarre domelike structure called the Integratron. It was built between 1959 and 1978 by a former test pilot, engineer and UFO enthusiast, who claimed he received instructions from the planet Venus. The structure was built at a special location apparently influenced by alignments from the Great Pyramid and the nearby Native American sacred monument of Giant Rock. The builder of the Integratron claimed it was capable of time travel, defying gravity and rejuvenating human cells via electromagnetics. Following the creator's death, there were plans to turn the dome into a disco, but it was bought by two sisters who believed the 'acoustically perfect structure' could offer healing 'sound baths'. #folklore #weird #architecture #UFO #psychogeography #bizarre #California

The Terpsiphone atrocaudata or Japanese/Black Paradise-Flycatcher can be found in China, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sumatra, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. They were described by English justice of the peace, deputy lieutenant, and naturalist, Thomas Campbell Eyton in 1839. These beautiful birds have black hoods, glossy, purplish-blue to blackish-grey plumage, whitish underparts, dazzling, neon-blue eyerings and striking, streamer-like tail feathers.
