02/14/2026 - Sweet Progress
Hi Friends! It’s has been a busy few weeks over here, with lots of positive progress to share. We know you’ve all been wondering, what happened with Diana’s birth certificate? Well, we now have not 1, not 2, but 3 apostilled copies that have made their way back to us. And yes, that means we had to go through the process 3 times, twice when USPS lost our documents somewhere in the process and a third attempt through UPS. Luckily we had a copy in time for our meetings, which brings us to the next update.
In late January we had a meeting with the immigration office to officially apply for our visa application. We had submitted some forms in December, and got a letter in early January giving us the green light to meet with them, so the meeting was the first in-person part of that process. At the end of that meeting, we were able to pay for our application and get a sticker in our passport that allowed us to stay for another 2 months as they processed our request. That day we also got our biometric scanning done, where they took our photo, fingerprints, and signature. Once that was underway, we were also able to schedule an appointment with the government to apply for our BSN number (the SSN equivalent), which is what we needed all our apostilled documents for to proceed.
To our surprise, we found out last week that our visa was approved!!! Then this week, we went back to the immigration office to pick up our resident cards! The following day was our BSN appointment, and with great relief, all our paperwork was in order and they began our application process for that as well. It takes about 4 weeks to get that number, and once we have that, it’s smooth sailing! Then all that’s left is to start a business in a new country…no biggie! 😀
To celebrate, we’ve had a few bottles of wine, made a few homemade pizzas, and went to our favorite restaurant in the area for brunch. We actually stumbled on the restaurant when we visited back in January 2025, and it was one of our best meals on that trip, the food and low key vibes were great, and when we move, it just so happened to be a 5 min walk from our place! Wat leuk (pronounced vaht lewk, meaning how nice)!
Until next time, DJMC.
