I don't really know. But if you click that little icon on the top left that looks like a group of people, it takes you to your contact list. On the lefthand side of that page there's a link to "Groups". I would suggest starting there....

You need to follow a Mastodon account first for this one appears on Friendica. It works like that with any applications of the Fediverse (Mastodon, Pixelfed, Peertube, Diaspora...).
I hope my explanations are understandable.
