To teach my students the fallacy of "I have nothing to hide", I simply ask them to tell the whole class about the last time they masturbated.
It is surprisingly efficient, they immediately grasp it. I never had someone argue with me on the subject after that.

"Yes we found that genome sequence explaining that attitude of yours in your data and it does not fit into this group. You will be escorted out NOW and we will keep your tuition fees."

It's the manipulatability that is the problem - for individuals as much as for society. But not the Victorian era blackmailing type.
The privacy that's at stake is the size of your wallet and who controls it. By guiding you to some products while dismissing others. About your political choices and who can manipulate these - by showing you some information and withholding other. About your thoughts about society, about your empathy. Because if Big Tech knows what touches you, they can touch you - and they do, because they know, so they can.
Our privacy and our society is at stake *because* people think that it's the nekkidpics they're after.

Agreed. But, this is also a construction of the morals of society.
It's far worse getting caught masturbating or dancing naked in the streets than committing fraud, abusing public funds and/or authority... and so on.

Cue those schoolmates harrasing me with question that I eventually stopped answering them (a few months later).
They were so immature and childish. (which, now that I think about it, might be exactly what they where. Immature child.)

You just need one "funny" guy in the class.
After all, even elected women (ex:
Sandrin Rousseau) disclosed on Twitter she was fond of anal.
No, instead ask them to unlock their smartphone for you.

Who closes the bathroom door ?
Which lead to the conclusion that closing or not the door is a personal choice whereas online, "they" can open the door without you knowing

in reply to ploum • • •Hi. Hello. Hi. Fellow educator, here:
You shouldn't ask that question of a class.
The fact that it's a demonstration of a principle does not mean you're not putting them in a position, even if it's only for a moment, of thinking they *have to* answer that question in public for fear of getting a bad grade in your class.
That's unethical. Stop it.
