I just don’t enjoy 99% of nature photos so I'm certainly not going to add to the pile when it's just not my thing (jus as there are thousands of nature lovers who don’t want to look at my photos of dumb stuff like escalators and parking garages).
That being said, there are a handful of nature photographers on here who do an incredible job and even make my nature-averse self pause in awe at the beauty they capture.

So let’s say we sent two per major US city. That’s one hundred and forty major US cities of their choosing- Wiped out. Gone.
The only half-assed winning strategy here would be to amass said resistance in the heart of every red state.

Whatever will produce the best outcome in both the short and the long term. Trying something and failing would be demoralizing, but still better than just getting slaughtered. Proving that escape is an option may encourage others to try and escape.

Hallo Fediverse, kennt sich jemand mit Trimmerfaden für einen Rasentrimmer aus? So ziemlich alles am Markt scheint aus Nylon, also Polyamid zu sein. Das zersetzt sich aber nur sehr sehr langsam und ich bringe damit jede Menge Plastik und Microplastik in den Garten. Das möchte ich nicht so weiter machen. Von Green Line gibt es etwas was sich wohl zersetzt.

Ich frag mich wie man ein solches auto durch eine Europäische Stadt bekommen soll bzw damit ein Parkplatz finden.
Teilweise habe ich Schwierigkeiten mit meinem VW Polo in Innenstadt Parkhäusern hoch zu kommen ohne eine Wand mit zu nehmen 😂 Könnte aber auch einfach nur ein Problem meiner Fahrkünste sein ...

With the worldwide surge in fascism, we are reminded that it is times like these that make future schoolchildren ask, "Why didn't anyone stop them?"
My hope is that, when future schoolchildren read about the abuse directed at gay and trans people today, they will ask, "Why did anyone even care?"

CxU-Wählende kann man alle in der Pfeife rauchen. Ausnahmslos.
Entweder sie sind stur uninformiert, oder dumm oder haben die hämische Böswilligkeit, die Rechtsbrüche, die notorische Gerichtsverachtung, Korruption, kriminelle Energie und das Paktieren mit Nazis normalisiert. Oder alles zusammen.
Wer bei CxU noch Mitglied ist, hat nicht alle Tassen im Schrank oder – siehe oben.
Jetzt ist die Frage: wie gehen wir mit CxU-Wählenden und CxU-Fans um?
Welche Taktik und Strategie bringt Abhilfe?

Oh, and I have been too. It seems that someone doesn't take criticism well.
I believe it's important to stand up for artists and this isn't the only example of Gee's work being copied uncredited.
#newsthump did it a couple of weeks ago and there are hundreds of t-shirts and other merch being sold online.
Being an anarchist, I doubt Gee is interested in challenging this, but she does deserve at least the credit for her work.

Danke, dass Du uns die Realität von dem zeigst, was der Großteil der Menschen nicht sehen will oder einfach keine Vorstellung hat, wie es in Wirklichkeit überhaupt aussieht.
Alleine der Begriff "Jugendhilfe" sollte inzwischen eher "Jugendschutz- und Rettungsdienst" heißen.
"Hilfe" klingt einfach so nach "Ja, ein bisschen Zuspruch und Hausaufgabenhilfe und eventuell mal ein bisschen Unterstützung fürs Selbstbewusstsein" - und rein gar nichts spiegelt an dem Wort "Jugendhilfe" die tatsächliche Dramatik wieder unter der die Kinder und ihr zusammen leben.
Ich wünschte, dass dieser Einblick von Dir hundertfach geteilt wird.
Danke an Dich, fürs Teilen und für Deinen und den Einsatz Deiner Kolleg*innen.

während meines 🤏 vor Ende nicht abgeschlossenen Psychostudiums, welches ich mir mit NWen als Krankenschwester finanzierte, musste ich Studiumsintern auch 2 unbezahlte Praktika machen.
Ich tat das
- in einem Frauenhaus, und
- als niedrigschwelliges Angebot
(im Bus herumfahrend) im Bereich
der Hilfe für minderjährige Prostituierte.
Das war Ende der 80er.
Und damals schon war ich, die Praktikantin,
in diesen Projekten mit unbezahlten 40 Wochenstunden im Team schon die "belastbarste" Kraft, da meine Kolleginnen mit ihren jeweils bewilligten und von der Stadt bezahlten 20-Stunden-Woche ca. gut 1/3 ihrer Arbeitszeit darauf verwenden mussten, dass ihre Stelle weiterfinanziert wird (unnützer Büro- und Rechtfertigungskram).

Das System ist schon länger richtig runter gerockt und ausgerechnet dort sieht er Einsparungsbedarf. Wer solche Vorschläge macht, hat sich noch nie inhaltlich mit der Jugendhilfe und Eingliederungshilfe auseinander gesetzt. Er guckt nur auf die Zahlen. Aber für eine satte Diätenerhöhung ist Geld da.
Diese Politik ist menschenverachtend.
Und ein Dank an alle, die versuchen dieses System für die Betroffenen am Leben zu erhalten.
Damit würde #Merzkannesnicht viele Städte an Rhein und Ruhr anzünden.
Die Situation ist doch jetzt schon, dass Einrichtungen, Jugendhilfe und ASD mehrfach-überlastet sind, Bezirksjugendämter wegfallen usw.

Aus Sicht von Merz und anderen Unionspolitikern steigt der Bedarf an Polizei und der Ruf nach Absenkung des Strafmündigkeitsalters.
Edit: Kaum geschrieben kommt die Meldung, dass sie in Köln einen 14-jährigen in Polizeigewahrsam genommen haben, der auf SM für die Hamas schwärmte und einen Anschlag auf einen Weihnachtsmarkt ankündigte. Der NRW-Innenminister bedauert nicht den Mangel an Jugendhilfe, sondern die Verrohung im Netz 🤷♂️

I grew up in what I guess could be called the "coming out time". The first episode of Benny Hill I think is a great sort of look at what the period was like. I remember you playing your part back then and you've not stopped, so you can thank yourself in no small part as well.

I prefer laptops without any OS. They are rare, but they are out there. I used to prefer ones with Windows, but I fell in love with Ubuntu few years ago and now it's the first thing I install on my laptops.
I don't know why people transition relatively easily from Windows to MacOS, but something like Ubuntu is so alien to them even though it's almost the same damn transition as it is to MacOS. Even the dock is there...
glad that they are offering linux pre-installed, especially because for some people its the hardest part and if they can make everything to work, or at least make it easier to use out-of-box for the user, then its really good! And they can save money not choosing windows either!
For me, advanced user, I wish they would offer laptops without OS, so I can do my own installation without forcibly paying for the windows which I dont want or need
Hopefully in the future we see more brands
For many countries the OS filter does not work, you need to find the customize option and check each interesting (#Thinkpad) model. I wrote about it at mastodon.social/@timojyrinki/1…

A summary for #Lenovo #Linux shopping in any country:1. Go to #Thinkpad models directly.
2. Filter just by your preferred screen size. Lenovo does not have functional OS filtering.
3. X1, Z and T series are the highest quality. L is cheaper.
4. Select any that have a "Customize" ("Crea", "Rakenna oma tietokoneesi"...) option.
5. Check the OS options - many have either #Ubuntu or #Fedora (fewer) available -> buy a certified laptop that works out of the box, and some €/$ go to Linux development.
I'm not sure about other countries but #Dell AU/NZ customer support is apparently happy with installing Linux on any laptop before shipping it if you arrange in advance, according to what they told me.
and a community project is looking into building EU OS, an OS based on fedora Linux to create an alternative to Windows and MacOS. This could in the long run mean more software independent of the US. Exciting times for Linux.

Bei aller Liebe, das Fediversum ist nicht so benutzerfreundlich wie die großen Dienste. Ich red gar nicht mal vom allmächtigen Algorithmus, sondern z.B. von den Entscheidungen, die beim Einstieg getroffen werden müssen, und dem Wissen, das sich erstmal angelesen werden muss. Die Umstellung benötigt Zeit und Aufwand und der Nutzen ist ungewiss.
(Jetzt schreit nicht mich an, weil ich so ketzerisches Zeug von mir gebe, sondern die Leute, die entscheiden, dass nie ein Nachmittag mal dafür zur Verfügung steht)

Das mag bei dir anders gewesen sein, aber ich hab nicht direkt verstanden, was die ganzen Begriffe heißen, wie das hier alles funktioniert, was föderieren heißt und warum mich das betrifft und was es für die Instanzwahl bedeutet, wieso mein Nutzername so komisch aussieht, wie ich auf Inhalte im Fediversum verlinke, die nicht auf meiner Instanz liegen, wieso ich auf [instanz.endung] gehen muss statt auf [plattform.endung] etc. pp.
Und ich bin immer noch nicht drüber hinweg, dass mir bei der Instanzwahl versprochen wurde, dass es totaaaaal egal ist, welche ich nehme, ich könne ja jederzeit ganz einfach umziehen - Satz mit x.
Edit: oh und natürlich das Versprechen mit einem Konto auf das gesamte Fediversum zugreifen zu können.

Gut die Begriffe wird die Politiker nicht groß interessieren, die werden einfach Texte tippen und absenden; also die dafür zuständigen.
Gut Instanzwahl ist wie schon gesagt eine bewusste Entscheidung, aber es gibt ja bereits eine Instanz für Politik da wäre die Entscheidung schon durch.

Wie der Zugriff funktioniert, ist je nach Software natürlich anders. Aber generellen Zugriff hat man eig. immer.

Mag die Politikys selbst nicht interessieren, aber irgendwer in ihrer Belegschaft muss sich damit auseinandersetzen und das ganze aufsetzen und -bereiten und für das technikilliterate Politiky nutzbar machen und zumindest Grundlagen erklären. Dafür geht Zeit und Geld drauf.

Ich spreche davon, dass ich nicht von feddit.org auf, sagen wir, feddit.co.uk wechseln kann, ohne ein komplett neues Konto zu eröffnen. Das wurde anders transportiert.
Ich kann mit meinem feddit.org Konto nicht mit Peertube interagieren.
Edit: die großen Plattformen sind außerdem deutlich leichter einsehbar, auch ohne Konto, das heißt man kann einfach mal unverbindlich schaun, was da so passiert. (Twitter hat in der Hinsicht abgebaut, zugegeben)

Wie? Also ich komme bei allen großen Plattformen immer an eine bezahlschranke und im Fediverse konnte ich bisher alles lesen ohne Account, außer der User poster es follower only oder so.

Keine Ahnung, wieso du denkst, das sollte selbstverständlich sein, ich bleibe schließlich auf der gleichen Plattform, ich HABE ein Konto. Mir (!) ist schon klar, dass ich mein Konto eben nicht auf der Plattform, sondern auf dem Server hab - aber genau das ist doch schon ein großer Unterschied zu den großen Plattformen und ein Umstand, der erstmal verstanden werden will. Das durchschnittliche Benutzy will sich bei Lemmy / Mastodon / etc registrieren, nicht bei feddit.org oder technics.social.de.

Ab einem gewissen Punkt ja. Vielleicht täuscht mich in diesem Punkt auch die Erinnerung, es ist ne Weile her, seit ich meine ersten Schritte im Fediversum gemacht hab. Ich hatte damals jedenfalls den Eindruck, dass das alles irgendwie versteckt und abgeschottet ist, grade als ich versucht hab, rauszufinden, wie denn so der Tonfall auf den einzelnen Instanzen ist, um mir eine auszusuchen. Woran das lag, keine Ahnung, aber ich bin jetzt nicht komplett unbegabt, was IT angeht, und wenn ich diesen Eindruck hatte, dann wird der für weniger Interessierte noch stärker sein.
Nutzer Anzahl. Plain and simple.
Dem Fediverse fehlt es an Bekanntheit. Und es liegt nicht daran, dass das Fediverse zu kompliziert ist. Sonst wäre Email auch schon längst Vergangenheit.
Aber kennt jemand in deinem nicht-technischen Umkreis das Fediverse?

Ich würde Nutzerfreundlichkeit fast an den ersten Platz stellen.
Feddit ist da ein bisschen die Ausnahme da EA wirklich sehr ähnlich zu reddit funktioniert, bei Mastodon ist das jedoch ein ganz andere Sache.
Wer von Twitter auf Bluesky umsteigt hat fast keine Hürden, alles funktioniert wie gewohnt.
Wer aber versucht Mastodon zu nutzen, ohne jemals eine vergleichbare Plattform genutzt zu haben oder ein tutorial angeschaut hat, der kriegt Frust. Mittlerweile geht es ein bisschen besser, aber als Bluesky aufkam und Mastadon noch als Konkurrenz angesehen werden konnte, war es ne Katastrophe.
Mastodon ist für den Durchschnittsnutzer der keinen Müh lernen will ungeeignet. Und darum gehts ja, die breite Masse ist nicht willig sich durch irgendwas durchzufitzen. Dadurch hat Mastodon von Anfang an verloren, zumindest im Rennen ein bekannter Name zu werden. Es ist keine schlechte Plattform, nur als Xitter-alternative ungeeignet für die normalen Nutzer.

Mastodon würde ich schon als recht nutzerfreundlich ansehen.

Ich sehe das anders. Aber es braucht Beteiligung staatlicher Seite. Es muss Werbung und PR dafür betrieben werden, damit es Leute kennenlernen. Bluesky wurde auch nur deswegen bekannt, weil es haufenweise Investments eingesammelt hat.
Ich versteh es auch nicht. Ich kann ja verstehen, dass man für TikTok andere Inhalte braucht als für Twitter. Aber wenn ich eh schon Posts für Twitter erstelle, dann kann ich sie auch mit null Aufwand auch direkt auf Mastodon & BlueSky posten. Dafür gibt es sogar Tools, die automatisch alle Netzwerke bespaßen.
Und es sind ja nicht nur Politiker: Es gibt z.B. noch genügend Polizeien, die wichtige Meldungen und Infos nur auf Twitter posten, wo sie keine Sau lesen kann
