Bobbi Humphrey - Fancy Dancer
I am now so far into this record blogging journey that I had to double check if I had already posted about this record.
I love this album. This is in my category of perfect album start to finish. Perfect sound. Amazing art work.
It's also a first on several fronts for Barbara's of the world.
Formally known as Barbara Ann, Barbs was the first female instrumentalist to be signed by Blue Note. It only took 32 years! She makes the flute cool and effortless. I tried to play the flute. It's thoroughly hard.
The artwork is by Barbara Nessim who was
one of the few full-time female illustrators working in New York at the time and a digital art pioneer. She created a plethora of works across album covers, magazines, and visual art. You want a giant fashion forward shoe on your jazz fusion album? Sure!

The opening track "Uno Esta" is a favourite for my playlists and always a crowd pleaser. After some reading this morning I am going to go listen to more Mizell Brothers produced albums. Today I also discovered Dorothy Ashby plays the harp on this.
This is the Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition mastered by Kevin Gray edition blah blah. You know the drill. It sounds fantastic.
