(Please note. Due to screen reader accessibility problems on Friendica, I have mostly switched to Akkoma. I can now be found here, though I may occasionally still post to Friendica.

Thank you for your understanding.)
Hello. Georgiana Brummell is not my legal name, but it is what I prefer to be called. I chose it in honour of Beau Brummell. I live in New Jersey and am forty-one years old. Some of my interests include studying dandyism, nineteenth-century grammar, Upper Received Pronunciation, British history, and the Regency. I like coffee, tea, wine, nasal snuff, cooking, hot baths, reading British literature, nature and historical documentaries, old BBC radio shows, gardening, hot weather, and playing cards and dice. I also love cats. In classical music, I enjoy Baroque through a bit of early Romantic, while in popular, I usually prefer 1950's through 1970's. I love theatre (especially English and Viennese operettas, Edwardian musical comedies), and some Regency/Georgian plays. I am starting to learn about opera, with my main focus being singers from the 1940's and earlier, due to the change in singing style that began roughly in the 1950's. I prefer antique menswear and accessories. It's my dream to either buy a genuine Edwardian suit or have one commissioned. I love wit, wordplay, and dry humour without vulgarity. My parents are lesbians, and I am a gay rights supporter. I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. I am happily childfree and am not religious. My main goal in life is simply to enjoy it, and have fun learning new things along the way. I am also single and searching. If you are or know a genuine dandy, or at least, a single, childfree, intelligent, well-dressed man, preferably over sixty, please tell him about me.
Please note. I don't write about American politics, race, anticapitalism or world affairs (wars, poverty, oppression, etc.), and will not add those who do, as I don't want it filling my timelines. While I am interested in technology to an extent (particularly website accessibility), I am not a programmer or gamer, do not use Linux, and don't care what social network you use. I tend to get along better with people much older than I, but I will accept friends twenty-one and over. I have no understanding of chronic illness, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, etc. so if you need help with that, I'm not the one to ask. I enjoy hearing about cats, cooking or gardening adventures, animals and nature, antiques, and interesting facts and life stories.
You can also find me on Dreamwidth. Anyone can read or comment, whether or not he is a member.

None of my friends is on here or knows how to use this, and no one from any of the Facebook groups of which I am a member could help either. However, I got it to work! I found the "follow" link, hit enter on it, and then, it asked me directly for my finger or address. I entered dandylover1@friendica.world, and it gave me another page with my full profile address. I hit "submit" and was pleasantly surprised to be connected! However, I will still post my original answer, because it is confusing. Why ask me to sign in when I'm already signed in? How was I supposed to know that I could follow a node/forum if it wouldn't recognize me when signing in? Feel free to ignore this if you wish.

I went there and it asked me to sign in. They said enter your e-mail or nickname. I first entered my GMail with my Friendica password, and that wasn't accepted. I entered dandylover1@friendica.world and my password. I then tried dandylover1, which is just my nickname. Then, I entered the addres to my homepage (as I did with the support page above). I tried both the password they originally gave me as well as the one I created. None of it worked. I went to another computer where I hadn't logged into my main page and went to friendica.world, and I was able to log in, so I know my information is correct. I then tried to find my contacts so that I could add this support forum to my friends that way. I saw a manage contacts option, but nothing about adding one. I tried searching, but that was just to search my contacts, which, of course, didn't work, since I have none.
What am I doing wrong here? How can I make this work? I also tried Semaphore, which is much quicker and easier to use than the regular site, but it only allows me to view posts, etc. I don't think I can edit my profile, add people, and so on from there. Just to clarify, the regular Friendica site appears to be entirely accessible with NVDA (my screen reader), but maybe, there is an option to add contacts that's not being read.

So, your account is on the server friendica.world.
The forum group is on the server friendi.ca. <-- This server does not know that your account exists.
So when you enter your username (@dandylover1@friendica.world)
this part: "However, I got it to work! I found the "follow" link, hit enter on it, and then, it asked me directly for my finger or address. I entered dandylover1@friendica.world, and it gave me another page with my full profile address"
That is your way of letting the server friendi.ca knwo who you are, and then friendi.ca sends the request back to your server, friendica.world. This is usually the more annoying way of doing things, but it works.

For finding contacts from friendica.world, you will want to click on the "Contacts" icon or go to (friendica.world/contact). The correct place to enter/search for a new person is in the "Add new contact" field. I have had this one work when I have the other person's "address". At the top of this page is a Find People option, which I haven't used much, but I imagine you can use it to search for people.
Please let me know if any of this was confusing!
As for finding people organically, I would recommend you search for some of your favorite hashtags. They are the best way to find content on the fediverse!
I'm still learning Friendica myself, so if you figure out any cool stuff, let me know!
