in reply to Michael L. Simpson • •It seems to me extremely unlikely there is one. I went over all groups that should exist in English and I did not see one.
And that was not a very long list.
And making a new one ... for the type of people who show up here; it is not (really) complicated.
When using the webbased interface;
Press on the first button, the square on top left.
Section 'groups'. There is + button, use it.
You are in the form that looks like to create a new user, what you are actually doing.
Password is your current account password.
When the new account is created: you can switch accounts be pressing the top right menu and pick 'accounts'
When you are using the new account;
go to 'settings' in the account profile menu.
First option, 'account', in the right panel pick ''Advanced account/Type settings'
There you define what that account is.
A regular user account, or other things. There is the option for 'Group' . And when you pick that some sub-options.
That is how you make a group.

If I was you - even if I was very found of what you wrote - would not make that group. I know nothing about that.
But it seems to me that is like creating a group about 'Linux Manjaro for ARM user group' when there is not yet a 'Linux users' group. (there is, since 6 days)
If would make a group that also is fitting for the topic 'Appalachian Trail' stuff but has a much broader scope.
'Adventures travels ' ? 'Walking travels ' ?
But obviously do like you wish.
Have fun!

in reply to Michael L. Simpson • •Is there a lemmy group? Or a mastodon group? I follow running groups on each here on Friendica. Works well.
BUT, it would be great to have a Friendica group as well.
