Public or private?

I need to know when a post is private or not. So, is this correct?:

To mention an individual user, I type: @username@instance.tld
To mention a group (a subaccount used as a forum or a community) I type: !groupname@instance.tld

When I use '!', the message gets posted directly to that group. It ensures that all group members see the post. If the group is private, the message will be visible only to group members. If the group is public, the message will be visible to everyone (including non-members and possibly search engines).

You may want to post this in the Friendica Support Group. Search for helpers@forum.friendi.ca and start following them. To post there just type [exclamation mark]Friendica Support and then your message.

Friendica Support just informed me:

Mentioning a user doesn't make the post private. If you want to have a post private, you have to change the permissions of that specific post (set to Limited/Private on the Permissions tab). The only exception are posts to groups.

So, if I mention a private group with an exclamation mark, the post will be visible only to people inside that private group.
