The school year is over, but the fun at SFO continues! Even during the holidays, the children have a great time together.
Outside, they climb, dig, and they play in the little brook. The SFO gives the children space to try things out. They whittle in the grill hut, climb in the tree, or simply lie in the sun and dream. Today, a little camp was built under the treehouse – a place for adventure and imagination. They observed small caterpillars in the flowers, which will soon be pretty butterflies.
Under the shady canopy, they don’t just enjoy fruit and packed lunches together, but also share stories, laugh, they rest and relax. The sometimes quite curious seagulls don't see the food there.

Following a long-standing tradition, the VG3 students at Stavanger Steinerskole conclude their school years with a theatre performance.
On Monday, June 15th at 6 PM in the gym, they will perform their self-produced play "Stykke; Stykke – undertittel semikolon", created in close collaboration with their drama teacher, Arthur Berning.
At this school, artistic and practical work play a major role. The students have kept the plot a mystery, so we’ll just have to wait and see. As one 9th grader put it: "I’m excited to see it 😉" One thing is certain: it will be a wonderful experience, and everyone is warmly welcome to attend!

Behind Building 2, some pupils have created and decorated small graves for deceased bees. This simple act shows touching care for the smallest among us. They take the time to give often-overlooked insects a final place of rest. It reflects a connection to nature, as even the tiniest creatures deserve respect and attention. At the same time, it is a small sign of hope: In a time when bees and other pollinators are threatened, this gesture of mindfulness symbolises the protection of nature.
"Here rests a bee" – pupils create small graves to honour the tiny guardians of nature.
"Laziness and cowardice are the reasons why such a large part of people, after having long ago acquitted nature of external leadership, nevertheless like to remain immature throughout their lives; and why it becomes so easy for others to pose as their guardians. It's so convenient to be underage."

In der Natur steht aktuell kaum Pollen und Nektar zur Verfügung. Und bis es für die Bienen wieder etwas zu finden gibt dauert es wohl noch etwas. Hier zu sehen an der Linde vor dem Haus. Es zeigen sich die ersten Knospen; bis diese aber aufgehen und blühen sind es vermutlich noch ein paar Tage. Gut dass ich zur Ernte nicht alles abgeräumt habe. Von diesem Vorrat zehren sie aktuell.

Among other things a bridge was constructed using diagonally arranged branches as supports, forming triangles—this makes it stable and strong enough to hold weight! With sturdy branches, the pupils built a solid bridge over the stream.
What did they do?

Around 12:30 PM today: One of our school’s beehives swarmed!
Just after noon, the hive started buzzing, and more and more bees took to the air. They gathered as a cluster in a nearby tree—just a few meters away.
Around 2:30 PM: Capture mission! Dressed in full beekeeping suits, Gunhild and Johannes arrived and began capturing the swarm.
For our beekeeping group pupils, this is an exciting time: They now have another swarm to settle—last week, a swarm from Randaberg was already added!
The pupils in the beekeeping club are learning hands-on apiculture: By capturing and settling the swarm, they practice how to safely transfer bees into a new hive, identify the queen, and settle the swarm without stress. A real-life nature experience that connects biology, ecology, and responsibility!

Last week, the children at the after-school care (SFO) enjoyed the first sunny days with plenty of fun and variety.
In the woodworking hut, they eagerly worked on pieces of wood, while others climbed trees, ran a mud kitchen or collected flowers.
The SFO offers children a space for movement, creativity, and free play after school. Whether in the woodworking hut, on the climbing frame, by the stream—where they build dams—or in the play hut: being outdoors is the priority here—only extreme weather drives them inside. Here, they can romp, tinker, and experience nature together.

Why this approach? The theoretical lessons in the daily morning hours establish a solid knowledge base. The practical implementation allows pupils to actively apply and creatively deepen what they have learned – a valuable addition that connects theory and practice. Each course concludes with a test on the topic. The assessment includes the test, the self-created textbook, and the project work.
While not much was known about Berthold Woltze, what he was known for was his genre paintings of scenes of everyday life and people in their environment. It was often with a touch of realism that offered a window into the lives of his subject matter.

Within 20 minutes they changed their minds and all streamed back in again. I have seen this described on here as fire practice which describes it well. I guess the workers were up for swarming but the queen, who leaves after most other bees, was not ready to go #beekeeping #swarms
