#WonderOfNature: Attacus atlas, the #Atlas #Moth, is a large saturniid moth endemic to the forests of Asia. It is one of the largest lepidopterans, with a wingspan measuring up to 24 cm.

Both forewings have a prominent extension at the tip, with markings that resemble the head of a snake, a resemblance which is exaggerated by movements of the wings when the moth is confronted by potential predators.

Booth's Theatre opens on Manhattan with the owner, Edwin Booth, playing the male lead in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Some reports said it was one of the most elaborate productions of Romeo and Juliet ever seen in America; it was certainly the most popular, running for over six weeks and earning over $60,000 (equivalent to $1,000,000 in 2023).

Kashmir Nutcracker

A jay-like bird with a long pointed bill, a black cap, and white spots all over. Very similar to Eurasian Nutcracker, but the Kashmir Nutcracker appears whiter overall with more white on the back, underparts, undertail, and tail tips. Forages in conifers for nuts and seeds, occasionally descending to the ground. Calls include loud, harsh “kraaa” notes.

The reason red/yellow bell peppers cost more than green bell peppers is the bright ones are ripe.
After the plant produces them, its done. No more, or very few peppers. The green ones don't trigger that. You get more of the green unripe ones because the plant keeps churning them out.

the acoma software is just acoma, anything else on top is probably a fork. From what I know, the web interface for acoma is good, but I don't know how good or how accessible. My opinion would be to pick an instance at random, then try it out without logging in, to see if the ui works for you...if it's accessible enough and so on, then log in. Acoma does have mastodon compatibility, so you can use mastodon clients with it, but follows on acoma are plane follows, so if you follow someone, you see their posts too, it's not just a number going up or something like that, if that's what you ment.

\Let me clarify a point. |I'm not one of these idiots who don't believe in clear winners. \But |I am literally dealing with some of the greatest singers in the world, particularly during the opera reviews. So sometimes, it really is difficult to choose between one singer and another, particularly when, as here, their voices are so similar, or their performances are so special that one or the other could honestly take the title. So that is what is going on when I choose one over another.

African Woolly-necked Stork

A dark-brown stork with green-bronze iridescence on the wings and breast. It has a distinctive white ruffled neck, a white tail, and a dark salmon-tipped bill. Resident and migrant. Individuals and small groups forage in rivers, shallow wetland margins, urban grassy areas, and flooded grasslands for insects and small vertebrates. May gather in groups of several hundred when conditions are suitable.

Here on the Fediverse, your account's reach depends on your followers rather than your server's size.

Even if you're on a tiny server, if you have followers from lots of other servers your posts will reach lots of people.

Here is why: If just *one* person from another server follows you, your posts and account will start showing up on that server and be searchable by *everyone* on that server.

@n_dimension @catsalad I could totally believe that with my dearly missed Archimedes. He was constantly on the search for new places to nap, with a preference for the dustiest dark places he could find(and the occasional very high and sunny places like the greenhouse cat walk). With few exceptions, if a door anywhere nearby was opened, Archie tried to get into it if he could.

@blogdiva @montaagge @catsalad very much so! That pic was from Summer 2020, around when he started slowing down. I would go out with him in the afternoon, walking with him as he sniffed all his favorite spots in the yard, ending with a sit down in the grass as I pet him in the warm sun. Also, there was bits of catnip practically everywhere in my living area at the time, which he passed through to go outside.

I love this time of year, a time for fireside planning of forthcoming adventures, whilst I am in good health and reasonably fit. Main trips this year hoping to be to the Pyrenees in June (backpacking 100km+, 3000 "Ibones" Lakes), Dolomites in July (Via Ferrata, Pale di San Martino) and all of November in El Chalten, Patagonia (peaks, passes and glaciers).

St Naum is buried in the church of the Monastery of St Naum, in Ohrid, North Macadonia. Naum was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and played a role in developing the Cyrillic and Glagolitic alphabets. He founded the monastery - on the shores of the beautiful Lake Ohrid - in 905 and died there in 910. A local legend claims that if you place your ear on his tomb, you will hear the saint's heart beating, over 1000 years after his death. It has been suggested this drumbeat is the result of local geological phenomena. #saints #folklore #history #gothic #weird #churches #death

Lawrence's Goldfinch

Unique among goldfinches because of its mostly gray body. Male has black forehead and throat, yellow breast, and complex black and yellow pattern on wings. Female is duller with ghost of male's pattern. Found in open grassy woodland. Uncommon, but sometimes travels in large flocks, especially in fall and winter. Highly erratic, moves around a lot from year-to-year; difficult to track down with much reliability. Feeds on seeds. Sometimes visits feeders.
