Don't you love anticipation? Of good things I mean -- birthday, vacation, dinner out, special event. Generally it's something we know of in advance, so there is opportunity for a jolt of joy every time we think of what is to come.

Why not enjoy these moments? God knows we spend enough time worrying about things that may or may not happen; why not dwell pleasurably on good things?

Richard Turere invented a solar-powered light system to scare away lions from livestock, and it worked. 🦁

It is so successful that he now travels around, installing them to protect the herds of other farmers. In doing so, he also protects the lions from becoming targets.

@Meg I would absolutely love to know how to block specific words and phrases! I have looked all over the Friendica.world site and I couldn't find any way to do this. I also couldn't find anything in TweeseCake itself. @Fedi.Tips Can you please help? Is this possible? I had to unfollow several otherwise wonderful people over this.

Blue-naped Chlorophonia

Small, plump bird with stout bill. Male mostly lime green with contrasting yellow belly and thin blue collar on nape and blue rump; some populations entirely blue above. Female similar but duller, with greener belly. Usually seen in pairs or small flocks, often in association with a fruiting tree. Forages at all levels, most frequently in the canopy. Listen for its plaintive whistles, usually one or two notes.

Making a single glass wine bottle releases <Edit> .49 kg of CO2. Melting glass creates a lot of CO2.

We can avoid about 80% of that by reusing the bottle.
In the greater Portland area we have this option now: tinyurl.com/3wnawxnw

However nasty the weather is where you are, it's worse on WASP-127b. This planet has howling winds blowing at 9 km/sec (20,000 mph). Temperatures drop 175° C (315° F) across its night side.

WASP-127b is also a weird puffball, less dense than balsa wood! What a world.

Terracotta Warriors - the thousands of clay soldiers guarding Qin Shi Huang’s tomb are enduring representations of the ruler’s legacy :

Mausoleum of First Qin Emperor is home to one of history’s greatest armies, though it’s one built entirely of clay.

The massive host of terra-cotta warriors charged with guarding the emperor’s tomb for eternity was discovered in 1974, when farmers near Xi’an, China, dug a well and found a clay head—the first of perhaps 7,000 unique figures.

Marine iguanas are the only lizards on Earth that spends time in ocean. They live only on Galapagos Islands (Ecuador 🇪🇨) and like many Galapagos species, they have adapted to an island lifestyle.

In water, they swim with a snake-like motion and hold themselves against the bottom with their long claws in order to graze. They also known for their very efficient salt glands, where they “sneeze” out salt. Because they feed underwater, they ingest a large amount of saltwater.

Would NodeBB, which now supports ActivityPub, be something that supports asynchronous groups? I'm only mentioning it because it's how someone described NodeBB to me today when I asked how it compared to Lemmy/Piefed/MBIN. Beyond this, I don't know much about it.

Folklore is full of tales of secret tunnels. It's claimed one runs from the George and Pilgrims Inn to Glastonbury Abbey. The tunnel, said to have been built in the late 1400s on the orders of Abbot Selwood, was apparently explored in the early 20th century by a Mrs Bilbrough. She edged down "a flight of fearfully steep steps, dark and damp and slippery' before finding the passage 'was only three feet in height, so that those who used it must have crawled on their hands and knees, resting at intervals where ledges are cut in the sides for that purpose." Another tunnel - reputed to run from the crypt of Glastonbury's Lady Chapel under the River Brue to the town of Street - is said to have been successfully navigated by a dog. #folklore #weird #gothic #psychogeography #tunnels #Glastonbury #pub #pubs #history
