The massive host of terra-cotta warriors charged with guarding the emperor’s tomb for eternity was discovered in 1974, when farmers near Xi’an, China, dug a well and found a clay head—the first of perhaps 7,000 unique figures.

Marine iguanas are the only lizards on Earth that spends time in ocean. They live only on Galapagos Islands (Ecuador 🇪🇨) and like many Galapagos species, they have adapted to an island lifestyle.
In water, they swim with a snake-like motion and hold themselves against the bottom with their long claws in order to graze. They also known for their very efficient salt glands, where they “sneeze” out salt. Because they feed underwater, they ingest a large amount of saltwater.

Would NodeBB, which now supports ActivityPub, be something that supports asynchronous groups? I'm only mentioning it because it's how someone described NodeBB to me today when I asked how it compared to Lemmy/Piefed/MBIN. Beyond this, I don't know much about it.

Has everyone except Dreamwidth and the makers of TweeseCake forgotten how to make an edit page/option that is actually easy to use? It's an absolute mess on the Friendica page itself, so that it could take me up to ten minutes just to be able to edit a post, and Enafore, which is supposed to be an improvement on Semafore has an edit page that is completely inaccessible with NVDA. It just says "Dialogue". Whatever happened to choosing "edit" and having a normal page open, with edit boxes, combo boxes, and a "save" button? See Dreamwidth's page for a perfect example of this, both for creating and editing posts.
TweeseCake also works wonderfully, but it only allows you to go back so far in your own posts. There is no way to enter a link and have TweeseCake open it.

Marbled Honeyeater
A medium-sized honeyeater of mid-mountain oak forest and adjacent secondary areas. Upperparts olive, underparts gray with mottling and some streaking on the crown. Note distinctive white crescents beneath the eye and on the cheek. Solitary and inconspicuous in the upper levels of forest. No other honeyeaters have these white cresents on the face. Voice, an often repeated, whistled “chirrup!” or more musical, wrenlike “chii-pi-dup!”.

An ancient method that keeps Afghanistan’s grapes 'Fresh' all winter :
In Afghanistan, the grapes are stored for up to six months, kept fresh in airtight mud-straw containers. Afghans developed this method of food preservation, which uses mud-straw containers and is known as kangina, centuries ago in Afghanistan's rural north.

American botanist, bryologist, and educator Elizabeth Gertrude Britton was born #OTD in 1858.
She was a co-founder of the precursor body to the American Bryological and Lichenological Society. She was an activist for the protection of wildflowers, inspiring local chapter activities and the passage of legislation. Elizabeth Britton made major contributions to the literature of mosses, publishing 170 papers in that field.

I just tried the friendica app on Windows, and I don't understand it at all. It's exactly the same as the website, from the layout, to the inaccessible parts. Why would I want to install any program that acts and looks exactly like a website? Is this some strange sighted thing?

I haven't seen this particular show, but I whole-heartedly agree with his assessment of the BBC. The modern version is an absolute mess! From terrible accents (including in the news), to spelling errors on their site. I love the old BBC, and am constantly collecting clips with RP from there and elsewhere, but I have no time for modern nonsense. There are some exceptions (David Attenborough immediately comes to mind), but they are few and far between. That said, modern television and radio is terrible almost everywhere.

Will Rogers State Historic Park is a vast stretch of natural space in the Santa Monica Mountains. It's a treasure to Angelenos. People get married there, picnic there, and have kids' birthday parties on the great lawn.The park's namesake, Will Rogers, was a vaudeville performer, radio and movie star, and was known as America's "cowboy philosopher."
His nearly century-old ranch house is the park's centerpiece. It's survived a near miss with wildfire before. Last week, as firestorm engulfed large parts of Los Angeles, this piece of American history was reduced to rubble.

Finch-billed Myna
A distinctive ashy-gray starling with a conspicuous, bulbous pale bill and fine red flecks on the rump. Juvenile browner, with orange coloring to rump and paler bill. Highly gregarious and vocal, often observed in flocks of dozens, frequenting the canopy. A species of lowlands and hills, preferring open woodlands and forest edge, particularly favoring tall dead trees, where they nest communally in cavities. Restricted to Sulawesi and nearby islands. Vociferous, regularly uttering “chirup” calls, typically as a large, noisy group.

Townsend's Storm-Petrel
Endangered seabird found in the Pacific Ocean well off the coast of Mexico and southern California. It breeds in summer on small islets near Guadalupe Island, located 160 miles from Baja California, and disperses northward and southward at other times of the year. Plumage is dark gray with a notched tail and pale stripes on the upperwing; rump may be either dark or white. Flies erratically and often patters the ocean with its feet. Very similar to Leach’s Storm-Petrel, which also has white- and dark-rumped forms, but it is smaller and darker with more rounded wings and less contrasting wing stripe. Also very similar to Ainley's Storm-Petrel, but keep in mind that Ainley’s has not yet been recorded in US waters.
