A (small) win ... We decided to stop using Facebook at my job! Still on Instagram and TikTok (as a lot of youth is present there) but a win's a win and progress is progress.

@Paperposts Ray Bradbury with his cat Tigger
You treat ideas like cats: you make them follow you. If you try to approach a cat and pick it up, hell, it won't let you do it. You've got to say, "Well, to hell with you." And the cat says, "Wait a minute.β

Hello all, let me introduce you to Soviet linguist Yuri Knorozov and the photo that Ernst Stavro Blofeld would've killed for: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_Knoβ¦
P.S.: OH, I see somebody else also posted about him. I guess something is absolutely true: authors with cats will share the photo.
@unlofl @Paperposts Vincent Price once made cookies for me at 1:00 AM when I was 18 years old. He was wearing a smoking jacket and scarf (he had been unexpectedly awakened) and was a simply wonderfully polite and amusing person.
My aunt's partner (I boarded with them my first semester of college) was a Hollywood realtor, and we had stopped by his house to pick up paperwork, not realizing that we would be waking him up.
I was blessed to see Ray Bradbury lecture in person at Monterey Peninsula College when I was a kid. Wonderful to see a reminder of him!

>> I feel like an 'authors with their cats' thread/hashtag would be very appreciated across the fediverse
annoyingly so! (i mean this in the nicest possible way)
@tristan
Assuming the photo was taken around the time the book was published it would be early 1900s (the cats are described as "kittens" at the start of the voyage but look like young adult cats in the photo) - film was fast enough by then to reduce the exposure time to a few seconds or even a fraction of a second, same as with modern cameras.
They are already trained well enough to walk on a leash and sit on the chaps shoulder, and if food motivated could be persuaded with treats to hang around for a photo or two πΈ

Didn't the genesis of workout machines come from prisons & workhouses?
Don't get me wrong, going to the gym, especially in winter, is a net good.
Just wish that effort had a more common good, like charging up batteries to keep the lights & heat on at a homeless shelter.
Exercise was intended as punishment.
The pointlessness of expended effort as psychological torture in the carceral system.

Been some time since I checked out Friendica. Still not sure how/in what way I'll use the platform. Figuring some things out as well. This new year I'd like to delve deeper into the social web and the fediverse, so expect some more activity here as well!

I'm new here, so it's time for a little #introduction, right?
My name is Arno, I'm from #Bruges (Belgium) and trying to learn as much as I can about the Fediverse. I have a job in social media and online communications - as that's a huge interest of mine - but I want to get rid of as much big tech as possible. Currently, I'm not able to leave everything behind. The Meta platforms and TikTok are - sadly - still way too important for my job. I'm sort of waiting for their collapse. In the meantime I'm doing as much research as I can, which I can do during working hours (win), and move my personal life to the Fediverse. You can also find me on Mastodon, Pixelfed, Lemmy & Loops (I have a slight addiction to social media, it seems).
I absolutely love #cycling, enjoy #music (listening and playing) and am interested in #tech. I also love being #creative! I'm a #drummer and like to experiment with #photography, mainly #analog.
Nice to meet you!
