Due to several reasons, I was โlateโ getting my license at 20. But I passed both exams (the theory questions and the actual driving) in one try. Didnโt have any theory questions wrongโฆ So I thought I didnโt do too badly.
Iโve been driving ever since. Iโve been in one accident so far (and that was enough), which was my fault, according to the laws. But, the other driver needed to follow a course after it, as it seems he kept causing these kinds of accidents, so the insurance felt like he was doing it on purposeโฆ But yeah, Iโve been doing OK so far.
But, now that I need to drive more again, since the move, I do wonder about my driving at times. Not that Iโm thinking my driving is badโฆ But I do often wonder if the rules have changedโฆ
I mean, I am not a slow driver. I donโt pull up with squeaky tires, but I do push the pedal when itโs green again. But, I donโt drive too fast. As in, I donโt speed. Iโve never really done that, and I donโt see any pros in doing that.
I just make sure I leave in time and, should something happen to make me later, then Iโll try to contact the person I was heading to to let them know Iโm a bit later. I usually have my speed about 2 km above the limit on normal roads and about 4km above the limit on the highway.
My autistic brain just canโt understand why people feel the need to break the laws, so that they can be a few minutes earlier. They make the roads less safe for others. When you think they drive 100, and you wanna overtake a truck, and then they are behind you when you donโt expect them because they were doing 130 on a 100 partโฆ ๐ค And of course theyโll blame you for being a dangerous driver, because they have to brake, because youโre not paying attention of them speedingโฆ ๐ค
When I was in Cuijk, I could do loads by walking, so I needed my car less. But now, Iโm on the road more, and it just amazes me how many people speed and break the rules. Or they just seem to not know the rules. And theyโll definitely get mad when you try to keep to the rules.
Is it because they think their cars are so much safer these days? That they figure they can do crazy things because the rules were made for โunsaferโ cars? ๐ค
I know, some rules just seem weird or sillyโฆ Even to my logically rule following autistic brain. But still, they are the rules and if everyone would know them, and follow them, I do believe the roads would be saferโฆ Things would be more predictable, so you would be able to access the situations better and react accordingly.
There would be less agitation, because people would not need to feel pressured to do things while drivingโฆ If that makes senseโฆ ๐ค
I mean, if I drive 62 on the 60 road, people would not feel the need to push Skoosh off it in any way, because they would stick to the rules as wellโฆ
I do understand that people not following the speed limits by going like a snakeโฆ Yeah they can agitate me too. But again, itโs because they donโt follow the rules! I donโt need people to drive 80 in a 60 zoneโฆ But I do want them to go faster than 42โฆ ๐ซฃ
Yeah, I was stuck behind someone who drove 42 on the 60 road, and when the speed bumps came (which can normally be taken with said 60), the person braked to 30! It was rather dangerous. And annoyingโฆ If youโre not sure you can drive, make sure they you donโt well, driveโฆ I mean, when I drive 62 in the 60 zone, people get crazy to overtake me there. Guess how they would react when they come behind someone doing 42, and even slowing to 30 at the speed bumps. At some point, it will probably end badlyโฆ
I always tell my parents, if you canโt drive for some reason, and you need to be somewhere, let me know and Iโll make sure that I can drive for you!

Follows and followers can be migrated to some degree between fediverse servers, but AFAIK post portability is still an unsolved problem. Mainly because the post address is tied to the domain name of the server. So even if your new server could repost all your older posts and backdate the timestamps, they wouldn't appear as part of the original threads.

Having ridden the bleeding edge since the early days of the web, I've had a fair few services disappear out from under me, both community-hosted and corporate-hosted. I agree with you that the corporate ones aren't immune to being shut down, but I have to admit it happens less, and often with more warning.

Reliability of hosting makes people more hesitant to do more than dabble in a new service, which does limit adoption. If we can solve that, we've got something to offer that's more useful to people than proprietary services. Ways to do that could include building community institutions that make hosting more sustainable, or by making accounts and data less dependent on SPoF hosts, or both.
