people can follow you if they have an account that uses activitypub protocol. so that includes sercers running mastodon, sharkey, misskey, akkoma, gotosocial and many more.eg my server is using the snac software and I can still see your posts and get your dm even though you use friendica or whatever it is. the best way for ppl to see your posts is if people share ("boost") them to their followers. and they will usually only see them via posts if they follow you or in some cases if they search a hashtag. so it takes more time to find ppl abd for them to find you than the creepy algorithm commerical operators with their "suggestions” but a more fun place to be 🙂

it can broadcast to all instances (snac does that by default) but that is very inefficient (as there are like 40,000 instances or something). But normally when you follow someone, both servers yours and theirs, keep a record, then if you post something it just sends a message containing the post to each follower's account, like an email almost. AFAIK that's the normal way it works.

@endless@friendica.world If you want to be global, the main thing is not, in fact Mastodon, but Misskey (there are many more users because Japan has fully embraced it). I see you from Sharkey (a Misskey fork). I don't think there are cutoffs for time - it's just that most people look for new posts. As far as getting back to a post - that depends on your client/instance/platform. I can't say for sure about Friendica because I've never used it.

Reminds me of Facebook when it started becoming popular. Random posts here and there, not much movement overall. The trickiest part is getting more people to switch. I feel like some "integration tools" would help a lot - you know, something that cross-posts content someone posts on FB here automatically, so that others can follow them here and not feel like they're missing out.

Have you tried signing in on a PC/laptop? Does that also require a face scan? I mean... What if someone only has a PC and a dumb-phone? Are they now completely locked out? It's such a weird situation.
@Alaknár I went through the process to see, what i could upload. But it gave the error message no camera detected. I only connected by pc and behind vpn. If you use whatsapp your phone video scans your face anytime. But "sneaked in" "no phone" users are out. And i would never provide that kind of information...
Damn, that sounds horrible! I wonder if they're doing a rolling deployment or what, because I just signed in to my account and didn't have any issues like this.

I like engineering application development. I get an enjoyable amount of computer-touching and learn an absolute ton of weird science in the process. No web, no networking, no surveillance, no JavaScript, no whiteboarding hazing rituals in hiring, no AI. In a perfect world I would reduce the amount of Python and its infrastructure hell by an order of magnitude but sadly you can't have everything.

I went to log in every day to my SSA account (I receive social security disability payments) and there was an error every time you went to log in. And the system auto logs you off after like an hour.
Working code doesn't get weaker - if it ain't broke, don't break it.

@SimonCHulse The metal foil in question hasn't been made from tin since the early 20th century. It's made from aluminum/aluminium.
I guess unless NZ is still trying to use up some VERY old stock. Or maybe NZ is flush with tin reserves and it's actually cheaper to make the foil out of tin over there. But ours is definitely made from aluminum.

On weekends, I sleep downstairs with her to keep her company (because she is 18 and has arthritis and can’t pull her body up the stairs but really needs a warm body to cuddle with)
It also means she has all kinds of faces when I open my eyes but don’t immediately get up to feed her
