Q: So, anything new? What'd you do today?
A: Oh, dug through menus in a new AV receiver to find its MAC addresses, configured my network DHCP server to give it a static address, and then wrote some iptables rules to keep that address from being able to reach outside the LAN. Pretty standard stuff.

Caffeine doesn't do much for me, in fact it often seems to make me sleepy
I struggle with falling asleep and it gets worse with caffein. So I never drink a lot of it after 16:00

An atypical response to caffeine is one of the most consistent markers of ADHD I've seen in the wild. I've yet to meet someone who has it and didn't have some level of ADHD symptoms as well.
Symptoms? Yes. Diagnosable? That's a different story...
True. I tend to hang out with a lot of high functioning weirdos. We worked out that about half of us either were diagnosed with various neurodiversities, or reasonably could be. Several got diagnosed, after the caffeine point.
Unfortunately, high functioning ADHD diagnosis can be VERY hit and miss. My diagnosis was apparently fairly blatant. A friend, with very similar experiences and issues, got the opposite end of the deal. Since he could hold down a job, he obviously had no issues. A depressing chunk is down to the personal opinion of the assessor.
Yep!!!! Hold down a job so you're fine! Not to mention the last time my house was clean was 7 years ago when i took a half dose of adderall...
My house might be tidy... one day... I don't think it's been truly tidy in over a decade.

I routinely go into Creative mode and wire/route the "perfect" ME controller every few months. It's a fun puzzle to minimize the number of colors required.

lol thatβs like the opposite of ADHD. I worked a pretty long day today and hadβ¦ idk, 10 cups of coffee? Iβm not gonna have trouble falling asleep in a couple hours.
Edit: this me joking about the situation. Caffeine is 100% extra stims, and I use it that way.

Ok but how do you even begin assembling this thing?
This post inspired me to make my own. I started by laying 10 q-tips on the table, then another layer of 10 perpendicular, and kept going until I had 10 layers of each. In hind sight, I recommend doing 9x9, because the next step was to poke q-tips through the grid vertically, and that pushed the other layers around and some fell off. Once you have the 9x9x9 cube, you can fill in the edges to get 10x10x10. Note that the final cube will actually be a few short of exactly 10x10x10 due to the way the shapes hold together.

Inner ear is off limits. Can still be useful for the outer ear. For most people, cleaning the outer ear will let the inner ear take care of itself.
You will compact your earwax and it will get steadily more and more blocked up. Don't ask me how I know this.

Well, usually
If it's too deep for your finger, it's too deep for qtips. Don't use qtips.
They also irritate the skin in a way that your finger doesn't.
If you have gunk that's not coming out with your finger, pippette small quantities of olive oil in, leave it there for a bit and tip it back out into some kitchen roll. Repeat once or twice a day for a week or longer if necessary.
MUCH, MUCH easier than that is DON'T compact the ear wax by using qtips in your ear.
You think you're scooping stuff out, and it feels so good, but you're compacting it on the way in and irritating the skin on the twist, promoting more ear wax. You'll think you have some hearing loss from noise, but it'll be the compacted ear wax because you didn't listen to the advice everyone gave you to not use qtips. Use your finger, but don't use qtips.
I've been using q tips and putting them into my ears for 40 fucking years. Not one issue, ever.

Yes, but that top layer isn't square. There's one more row towards the top left. Some Qs need to be removed or added to bring balance to the qube.

I have been informed that my job is not secure & I'll lose it within the next year month few weeks. I have lost my job & housing. Does anyone know of a place in Georgia or Minnesota that has entry level positions for IT or any similar computer stuff? Electronics repair is something I'm interested in too.
I was unable to get any certifications from my current job so I'm stuck at entry level. They told me they would give me opportunities for certifications, but they never came, so I feel scammed & don't feel bad about leaving this company.
I don't know when exactly I'm losing this job but I'm guessing in about a month, so I might need an immediate opening, just ideas about where I can look when the time comes now. I would prefer something LGBT friendly, because working with stereotypical anti LGBT boomers is killing me & I'm suffering in this environment.
If I can't get something in IT I'll take anything with a gay work environment that pays enough for me to live alone.

Hi Luna. I don't know of any places, but as a political science major, I'd strongly encourage you to look more into Minnesota than Georgia. Georgia is in the bible belt meaning it's a rather conservative state that will likely have much more conservative folks and policies that would be harmful to you. On the other hand, Minnesota is a state with rather strong trans protections (I forget if you're trans or just queer but I still think it's good to know the LGBT culture of States you're looking into)

@Starcross I'm from Georgia. I agree with you that it's not a great place, but there are some very LGBT friendly cities & I'm looking for jobs near those. I just won't specify which ones because I don't want to dox myself. I'm still considering Georgia because that's where my family is. I don't have anyone in Minnesota that I can rely on for help, & I'm only considering it because of its laws about LGBT people. The people in Minnesota may not be very LGBT friendly either, only some cities, the same as Georgia, & the only difference would be the law. It's a very difficult situation & I have to weigh my legal safety against my financial safety & risk of losing housing; personal safety isn't a factor because it's likely to be the same in either state, even if I am legally protected in one it won't change that some people are to be hateful. The USA overall is not a very good place & I would leave if I could, but I can't.

A gay (or at least LGBT friendly without the fetishization of LGBT people that most corporations seem to do) is very important to me. I can't do this pretending to be straight & perfectly gender conforming shit again. I'm DYING here.

Do technology employers still do fizzbuzz, or is there a different test they do now? I remember reading that some will give you some kind of knowledge test to see if you know how to use a shell or know what the parts of a computer are or something. What are common tests? I probably don't have to worry about this for entry level but I still want to know just incase.

Because the more of you cis folk do that, the safer we will be in crowds and such. It will mean that wearing a badge of support for trans people doesn't necessarily out that person as trans.
"But wait," you're thinking maybe, "if I do that, people might think *I* am trans!"
Well, why is that a problem for you? Would you be offended by someone thinking you might be trans? Would you be scared? Welcome to our world.
This is your time, cis people. You were all ready to call yourselves allies when it didn't matter more than changing your PFP background. Now the rubber meets the road. We need you. We need your help to normalise our existence to other cis people. It could save lives.
If someone accuses you of being trans (imagine being *accused* of existing while trans?), don't deny it. Ask why it matters to them. Keep calm.

for months I've had a "Mr Skittles" air freshener hanging in my car, although its long run out I keep it there (and put another cheap air freshener behind it) as its both in trans flag colours but also "under the radar" (I'm not sure if whoever designed it knew the significance, but given they could have picked any colour it does make me wonder..)

@darrell73 Hm, I think it depends on location, in my area they are sold at the art supply stores and the independent bookstores and such. They also may have them at your local queer community center (US and Canada listings at lgbtqcenters.org/LGBTCenters)

people can follow you if they have an account that uses activitypub protocol. so that includes sercers running mastodon, sharkey, misskey, akkoma, gotosocial and many more.eg my server is using the snac software and I can still see your posts and get your dm even though you use friendica or whatever it is. the best way for ppl to see your posts is if people share ("boost") them to their followers. and they will usually only see them via posts if they follow you or in some cases if they search a hashtag. so it takes more time to find ppl abd for them to find you than the creepy algorithm commerical operators with their "suggestionsβ but a more fun place to be π

it can broadcast to all instances (snac does that by default) but that is very inefficient (as there are like 40,000 instances or something). But normally when you follow someone, both servers yours and theirs, keep a record, then if you post something it just sends a message containing the post to each follower's account, like an email almost. AFAIK that's the normal way it works.

@endless@friendica.world If you want to be global, the main thing is not, in fact Mastodon, but Misskey (there are many more users because Japan has fully embraced it). I see you from Sharkey (a Misskey fork). I don't think there are cutoffs for time - it's just that most people look for new posts. As far as getting back to a post - that depends on your client/instance/platform. I can't say for sure about Friendica because I've never used it.
