#OTD in 1904.

Italian composer Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly premiered at La Scala in Milan to poor reviews, forcing him to revise the opera.

This was due in part to a late completion by Puccini, which gave inadequate time for rehearsals. Puccini revised the opera, splitting the second act in two, with the Humming Chorus as a bridge to what became Act III, and making other changes.

#WondersOfNature: Eucalyptus deglupta, commonly known as the #Rainbow #Eucalyptus, is a species of tall #Tree that is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.

As rainbow eucalyptus sheds its bark, it reveals a neon green inner layer. Over time, as this layer is exposed to air, it ages into different colors - bright reds, oranges, blues, pinks and purples.

Nothing to apologize. I bought it though I was amazed.

Maybe I bought it because your photos seem be coming from a place similar to Middle Earth or something with wild bears wearing slippers enjoying themselves on recliners catching salmon falling from the sky and stuff. 😎

Ha ha ha! Yeah, it seems like that kind of place. It is really nice here, thanks to the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands and waters for millenia. There is a large variety of wildlife, lots of bears, the highest concentration of cougars (pumas) in British Columbia, salmon jumping out of the water, orcas hunting for seals in harbours... just amazing. I love it.

One of the best ways of discovering interesting accounts and posts on here is to follow hashtags. It's really easy to do:

1. Search for a hashtag
2. Click the hashtag you want from the suggestions
3. On the results page for that hashtag, click "Follow" at the top of the page

Posts with followed tags will start showing up in your timeline.

There is lots more info about hashtag following (including how to manage and unfollow tags) in the guide at:

eheh I was wondering if there was an easy way to check this. For example a website that shows for each account the number of instances that are hosting that account’s content and the total MAU (monthly active users).

Scrub Nightjar

Brown-and-buff nightbird found in arid scrub and deserts in western Ecuador and northwestern Peru. It is dark brown, heavily mottled with buff, and has a white throat. In flight, it has white crescents near the wingtips and white stripes along the outer tail feathers. Similar to Common Pauraque, but smaller, with a shorter tail and a different voice. Compared to Tschudi's Nightjar, with which it overlaps in northwestern Peru, Scrub is much darker and has a different song. Scrub Nightjar typically gives a clear, whistled, incessantly repeated “tWEE-oh,” more emphatic and not as burry as Common Pauraque.

I've disabled auto-posting of Liliputing articles to this account, after receiving a warning from @fosstodon that it looks like I'm spamming.

The WordPress ActivityPub plugin is still kind of buggy, but you can try following these accounts:

@liliputing_ - This shows all I've written, but not those from other authors.

@liliputing - This should display posts from all authors. It can be hit or miss though.

Guess what? I can do it on TWBlue! I completely forgot about that client, mostly because I can't edit my posts with it. I may not be able to split posts into paragraphs either, but I'm not sure. If this posts, it's because my trick didn't work.
in reply to Georgiana Brummell

Okay. Let's try this again from TWBlue.

Oh! It works! Yay! If I hit shift+enter, I can make long posts! I wish editing were that easy. There are some features that TwBlue has that even TweeseCake doesn't!

This is strange. Can anyone please tell me why, whenever I type anything into the TweeseCake edit box in my Blob.cat account, it makes a dinging sound, but it doesn't do that in my Friendica one? This is quite annoying. I didn't change sounds, and even if I wanted to, I'm not sure if they can be changed for individual sessions. Thanks for any help given. Also, like an idiot, I didn't write down the hotkey for deleting seraches, so I forgot it. But the search function doesn't always seem to work, anyway. I tried with the at sign and also the number sign, but searches that worked on the main Friendica site and showed me results from around the Fediverse don't work in TweeseCake with either account.

#accessibility #blind #Blob.cat #Friendica #TweeseCake

in reply to Georgiana Brummell

I found a work-around for the bit about following tags, at least. If I click on one in a post, I can follow it. So theoretically, if I make a post with all of the tags I want to follow, I can just do it from there. I can make the post private, so that only I see it, or at least make it only for my followers, so that it doesn't spread to the Fediverse. It's convoluted, but at least, it might work. I can also go to the profiles of people and pages and follow them from there, which is another good thing.
in reply to Georgiana Brummell

It seems that I can't follow certain people with the work-around. One literally didn't have a follow button (not to mention having two inaccessible buttons and a captcha as an extra insult) and the other one said the user couldn't be found. But I know that Blob.cat doesn't work with every instance, so that didn't surprise me. With friendica, I would just search for a person with the number sign, find him, and follow him directly from Friendica itself.
