Canada seeks stronger EU trade ties as both regions threatened by Trump tariffs
Canada seeks stronger EU trade ties as both regions threatened by Trump tariffs
Canada wants to deepen its economic ties with the EU and uphold global trading rules in the face of threatened U.S. tariffs, its trade minister Mary Ng told Reuters on Saturday.Reuters Staff (CTVNews)
Maybe it's all Europeans downvoting me. Keep in mind that very extensive US led propaganda is responsible for your hatreds.
For Canada, and what should be Europeans too, the phantom threat of Russia should not be weighed as a real threat. The direct tangilbe threat of war by US should weigh very heavily.
If the downvotes are not all from your propaganda handlers, you don't have time to be too shocked to lose your fantasized hatred (direct cause of your economic and political underperformance/destruction since Ukraine war) in order to deal with the real hatred towards you, that comes from the same assholes who've be propagandizing you all along.
Ukraine first propaganda bots, are Canadian last propaganda bots. So sickening to see your disinformation constantly brainwashing the world. It is not pro Russia to be disgusted with disinformation that you want us to be so desperate to clinging to that we surrender to US.
Anyone that recommends begging the US to stop being mean to us, by showering it with compromises and gifts needs their heads or loyalties examined. Ukraine is not available to help Canada no matter how much you share their hatreds.
Well you do make a point, except for the fact that you support teaming up with Russia.
So I think you just thought a bit too much about it and lost track of morals and ideals.
morals and ideals.
Shitting on Russia is popular propaganda, that "we" always believe because we've always shit on Russia (except perhaps when Yeltsin was giving the country away to US backed oligarchs). Every lie is true because we unquestionably believed every previous lie. There is only pure demonism instead of "moral high ground" in diminishing other countries. "Liberal supremacy ideals" that give us the right to destroy "less liberally ideal" societies is not significantly different than right wing ethnic supremacism.
Instead of fixating on "those American indoctrinated ideals that the US used to have", waking up to "The US has declared war on Canada", and ending our enemy relationship to the US's enemy is step 1 in defending ourselves. That you hope Europe will be closer friends with us, is a nice thing to hope for, but all NATO colonies cowering in fear and not doing anything together is not an effective alliance. A sewing circle for the abused wives club waiting for big daddy to come into the room, and then point at each other over who should be ravaged is not the best defense.
You really need to get off your high horse.
You want to sound way too intelligent making you fail miserably at conveying normal thoughts.
"US bad" does not mean "Russia good".
"US bad" and "Russia bad" can both be true simultaneously. Didn't Russia want a multipolar world? How about we the sane countries form another pole?
I’m talking about Russia before the USSR, as a part of the USSR
Even more pathetic. The Tsar family was mean to your great great great grand parents, so after their populist murder to form revolution, you support every lie that can help quench your thirst for revenge. The "after the USSR" basis for hate is all lies demonically told due to your prehistory hate.
I see we finally got to the bad faith twisting of your opponent's words, a favorite tactic of tankies.
Why is it their favorite? Because there is nothing they can say to make the fact of Russian imperialism seem more palatable, so they have to instead twist the words describing that imperialism into russophobia.
Only empire today is US. That a few other countries cling to a sphere of influence, and are capable of resisting US led demonism against them does not make them empires. The real tankies, today, are those who cheer US imperialism.
But back to Canada, understanding the US is coming for them, requires a wake up call to prevent. Our European "friends" that we need to share their hatred above our survival is an "interesting expression" of friendship.
Just because the US "demonizes" some countries, as you put it, does not mean that there are no legitimate reasons for opposing the influence of those countries. That is not hatred, that is realism.
Ignoring the bad actors in the world and letting them have their way will not make the world a better place, no matter how much those bad actors think they have "a right" to "be respected" or whatever line they're peddling this time. Yes, that includes both the current Russian and US administrations.
I'm done with this conversation, I have better things to do with the rest of my Sunday.
Just because the US “demonizes” some countries, as you put it, does not mean that there are no legitimate reasons for opposing the influence of those countries. That is not hatred, that is realism.
Russia only asks of Ukraine not to join NATO, and host US missile bases, and to stop being hateful. If US supported French supremacists in Switzerland to exterminate their German population then point missiles at Germany, should Germany do anything? Object at all? All US allies siding with the US on such diminishment would declare "Germany the bad actor". Resentment against "Former German regimes" would have nothing related to current hatred/propaganda against Germany. The world of US sycophancy means nothing is real anymore.
A Canadian toddler should understand that a country that has never threatened us makes a better friend/no longer enemy status than a current enemy that has them as enemy status.
Right... unless US is going full Russia on Ukraine type situation.. what is the end goal here.
Canada was always a good hoe... then US goes and beats it anyway? What is the W?
US just looks mental aka "unreliable partner"
Canadians and their oligarchs would be stupid to not take notice here no matter how this resolves.
Didn't we recently sign a major contract with Japan for natural gas? On top of the new natural gas facility we're building in BC?
Though I suspect that this relationship will only be good for a decade or two, becoming the #1 supplier of natural gas to eastern Asia will be good both from an economic and political stance, as that's the area that is likely to have the biggest economic impact on the world aside from India over the next half century.
We already have a major free trade agreement with the EU, and we're not burdened by their regulations on most resources that we want to export to them anyways.
This is different from those people who are talking about actually joining the EU. We're just shipping our raw resources (or preferably refined resources).
And frankly speaking, a lot of the US's growth comes from the fact that they've been taking advantage of their legacy infrastructure like 60 year old power plants, and the fact that we sell them oil and minerals at costs much lower than the world average. We redirect a ton of that to the EU and other countries, and the US's growth with drastically slow down while giving us huge growth as the profit margin of our products will rise substantially.
EU might not be as rich as the US, but it is still quite rich, and isn't about to collapse under its own weight like China. As economies go, they are literally the next best thing after the US, and their reliability makes them far more attractive partners for the next half century.

Every person must stop giving their money to businesses owned by fascists.
Hell yeah. I would also hope as many engineers as possible resign from SpaceX, Tesla and the Boring Company, but sadly too many of them probably a) have no problem with their boss's ethics or b) are financially stressed and are afraid to do so, or c) are addicted to the lifestyle enabled by their pay grade.
The biggest trick capitalism pulled on all of us is keeping wages 'not too low, not too high' so we are all not starving, yet afraid to walk away from our jobs.
I agree completely.
Man I miss the days when my neighbors owned the local businesses. These soulless corporations have totally destroyed the small town “American dream”.
I miss walking into our old hardware store and picking a Super Nintendo game every now and then because my mom talked the owner into stocking them. He had them hanging overhead behind the counter.
He only got the big titles, stuff he knew the kids would want. He’d ask me and my brother when we came in, “What game are they talking about on the playground now, big guy?”
That world is gone. Going to town is pointless unless you have to go to court for something.
I believe the issue would lie with the pressure for government procurements to always go for the lowest cost bidder possible, which would be more difficult for local and Canada-first companies to compete.
While I believe that procurements should strongly prefer local/Canada-first companies, it would come at a price and provide an opportunity for one political party to cry foul over “wasteful government spending”.

Amazon l'ont bien mérité après ils ont fermé les entrepôts syndiqués.
Amazon deserves it after they closed unionized warehouses.
Good call. The odds of Bezos of being part of Vichy America's cabal is high. A man who prefers their deliveryfolk to piss in bottles and break their bodies in warehouses, is pretty likely to support a war machine that assaults Canada.
It will be important for Canada to divorce itself from as many Vichy services and goods as possible.
I was about to cave use Amazon because how much cheaper things were compared to eBay.
That story about pissing in bottles came out right when I made my account and I’ve never once used it. Don’t even remember the password.
Vichy America has a ring to it.
I mean, if we want to be really accurate, it's more like Nationalist Spain or Mussolini's Italy, but people don't history enough for that to make sense rhetorically.
We could use a better name, but for now it will have to do. I expect that we will have a civil war down the line, and a more suitable name will arise. Of course, Facist America would still call itself America. Hm. We could call it "Famica"?
Feel free to toss names into the hat.
Republican Leadership Outraged as Colombia Announces a 75% Tariff on Cocaine
(Bogota, Colombia) After several difficult exchanges between the trump administration and Colombia, the gloves are off - the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has announced 75% export tariffs on all cocaine leaving the country for America. This tariff, a tax to be paid on all cocaine headed to the US or with the US as its final destination, goes into effect immediately. With the increased cost, supplies are beginning to dwindle in the US; Republicans are outraged at the news.
“This is an outrage, this is unfair,” screamed the president, searching desperately through his desk for something. “This is… this is an outrage,” he repeated. “To think that… the thing… they can’t be placing… totally unfair!” This sudden response has been seen throughout the republican establishment, or at least in its members that matter.
“I for one support the president and his agenda,” said a confused Mitch McConnell, being wheeled through the capitol. “What? Cocaine? Do you have any cocaine? Oh, you’re a reporter? Then you probably don’t have any.”
McConnell, once referred to by a political rival as “Cocaine Mitch,” has been falling down stairs repeatedly in the recent week, for reasons totally not related to this story.
“But you don’t have any, though,” he added.
Surprisingly, Colombian cartels are pleased with the measure, as the tariffs will be collected, administered, and managed by the international smuggling cartels of the country. One member commented, on condition of anonymity, “it’s hard not to support good trade policy like this. I was going to, like, buy an island with all the extra money, but with all that ice melting, I kinda think I will buy the higher parts of Florida and wait.”
Economists, asked whether US production of cocaine could cover domestic demand, were surprised. “Our funding is stopped, and I have an interview at Starbucks in 10 minutes,” said one. “The US can reap what it sows.”
We can only wait to see if that reaping includes cocaine.

Yeah, Trump and Musk both are like some kind of chronic fungal skin infection: they keep coming back.
But one thing that BTTF got right about Biff Tannen is that bullies are weak. They crumble. They crash. They can’t handle even mild challenges. Their power mostly comes from other people’s fear, from complying in advance, from people shrinking away before the confrontation happens.
It may take more than once, but: do punch Biff. Do poke the bear. Repeatedly. Incessantly.

What is SAFER in this Time?
SAFER is Strategic Adaptation for Emergency Resilience
It is compiled & published by the Climate Majority Project, and is one of several recent documents that originate from academia that most major governments have failed to openly consider.
That our civilisation will soon become degraded progressively as unstoppable climatic effects begin overwhelming our systems of supply, on which our civilisation depends.
It is a long read, it is detailed and isn't laced with 'hopium' messaging, so is only for real grown ups!
That is why I post it here, not 'there' which is many places.
