Diasporasocial down again...

I understand that in the federated universe some nodes are bound to fall from time to time, but the utter lack of communication from diasporasocial on these downtimes (not even communication *after* the system is back on) is baffling... Anyone knows what's happening?

I have emailed podmin@diasporasocial.net after previous failures, months ago, but not this time. Both times the podmin replied to me, but didn't say much, one time they mentioned a backup failure. Whoever the podmin is, they apparently want to keep a very low profile, but they did mention they had been running the pod for the last 8 or so years.

Also, this morning i got a notification that you replied to me on another thread, but your comment didn't show up on the thread. And that was after the server had come back this time. Maybe you should add your comment again to see if it goes through.

Re-listening to Mama

I've recently been listening to Spice, The Spice Girl's first full album from 1996. What a master-piece. Anyway... There are amazing songs in there like wannabe, Say You'll be there, or Who Do you think you are (a personal favorite).

A less well-known one is 'Mama'. A very corny song I didn't make much of when I heard it many many years ago. Hearing it again, as an adult and a father... it hits differently. Not only is the music good in this album, but the wisdom is also there. Long live the spice girls. What a band...

Removing the US flag out of my desktop

I am a long time linux user, and Xfce has been my main environment for years now. I recently did a fresh install on my work computer, and I saw that hideous flag on my panel. I type in multiple languages, so I need an indicator of which layout I'm in. When I use Latin American Spanish, for example, I see 'LAT' on the icon. But when I use English, I see that goddam flag. It's repulsive, specially nowadays.

A quick fix is to navigate to /usr/share/gxkb/flags/ and replace the us.png file. I used this one:

The file is called "us", so I though of "us" as in "we", and thought of planet earth as a more accurate image, since English is really a lingua franca more than the language of the United States of America.

My Mom is a Fantastic Artist: Meet JoAnna Lombardi

Hey guys! I've been on Friendica for less than two hours. Even so, I'd like to post about my mom. My mom has a new website to promote her oil and watercolor paintings. I love her work! She is so talented. JoAnna Lombardi is her name. She should be participating in a show soon, probably NYC.

Whatever works! Works well for interests, people, etc.
I still find "here" the best blend of posts that interest me AND familiar people who I've 'hung out' across time and (Cyber) space. I was surprised to see I have a bunch of "followers" on Mastodon, a larger user-base by far, BUT while a few comment there, including new/unfamiliar folk, mostly it's diasporians with whom I interact, so it's more of sharing than interaction, whereas "here" it's a nice blend.
