BREAKING: China just buried the hard drive. A team at Fudan University has built a memory chip so fast, so durable, and so revolutionary it could wipe out SSDs, RAM, and even parts of your CPU. The West isn’t ready for this.

As dumb as the Trump org seems, they had someone read a history book and they learned that Crimea is part of Russia.

An 84% budget cut to the US State Department is insane, especially when coupled with a 13% increase to the military.

This is the US basically completely closing shop on diplomacy and choosing to only "speak" through weapons.

BREAKING: Trump’s trade war just backfired. China, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN just issued a joint statement that politely declares independence from US economic dominance. You won’t believe what they agreed on in Milan. A thread you need to read. (1/15)

"In Austria, you have more foreign-born population than in Canada"
There are two fears: "these foreigners that come here, they will never going to be like us". And the other one is: "it could be that they will become soon like us. But if they can be like us, then who are we?" A fear of identity loss, of not knowing what we are.

"...Americans have to accept that they are not as good as they used to be. If we are talking about 1950, you could complain that our things are so much better than everyone else’s. If you are not able to sell it somewhere, it must be due to some regulations, some hidden protection, and so on. Even then, that’s a problematic argument. But today, Americans have to accept that they cannot build ships because they have basically run down their own shipbuilding industry.

They can’t make good semiconductors because they have refused to invest in these industries and have let the Koreans and the Chinese and the Japanese make these chips. To me, America’s response looks like the tantrum of a country that was once the undisputed hegemon of the global economy now having been reduced to a much weaker position, largely thanks to the actions of its own capitalist class. Outsourcing, offshoring, and not investing are the causes of American relative decline."

since Musk doesn't have that legal authority, in part specifically to avoid conflicts of interest, I don't think you're seeing what you think you're seeing.

(Or more to the point, a lot of people are running around spreading misinformation about what's going on, and unfortunately it's spreading quite easily on social media, so a lot of people are seeing things that just aren't really true)

the screensaver from the year 1995 still running in windows 11

I am using this screensaver since the year 1998, and it still is a deligt. It shows the sky above your place, with the names of constellation, deep sky objects and planets... Programmed by John Walker, one of the founders of Autodesk, the screensaver was always freeware.
(the image below is from "home planet" another software from the same John Walker, I post it because it is otherwise not so easy to make screenshots of screensavers... 🙂)

"A new study from Columbia Journalism Review's Tow Center for Digital Journalism finds serious accuracy issues with generative AI models used for news searches. The research tested eight AI-driven search tools equipped with live search functionality and discovered that the AI models incorrectly answered more than 60 percent of queries about news sources.

Researchers Klaudia Jaźwińska and Aisvarya Chandrasekar noted in their report that roughly 1 in 4 Americans now uses AI models as alternatives to traditional search engines. This raises serious concerns about reliability, given the substantial error rate uncovered in the study.

Error rates varied notably among the tested platforms. Perplexity provided incorrect information in 37 percent of the queries tested, whereas ChatGPT Search incorrectly identified 67 percent (134 out of 200) of articles queried. Grok 3 demonstrated the highest error rate, at 94 percent."

Republican poll shows that americans know who is to blame for the Ucraine war

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) took a subtle jab at President Donald Trump on Thursday by sharing a recent Reuters poll that asked, “What Americans think of Trump’s Ukraine rhetoric."
Bacon, a retired brigadier general in the Air Force, shared the poll with the caption, “Overwhelmingly, Americans know who is at fault. Moral clarity is important.”

The survey of 1,174 U.S. adults conducted from March 3rd to the 4th found that 70% of all adults disagreed that Ukraine is “more to blame for starting the war.” Split by party, 62% of Republicans disagreed, while 81% of Democrats disagreed. Trump made headlines last month for both declaring Ukraine started the war and calling President Volodymr Zelensky a dictator – despite the fact that Russia’s Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in 2022 and celebrated 25 years in power in 2024.
