De klok van de Maartenskerk in Doorn. In mijn jonge jaren liep ik langs de kerk naar mijn lagere school. Toen ik de kerk en de klok na vele jaren terugzag, waren die meteen weer vertrouwd.

Midden in het bos op landgoed Den Treek-Henschoten kwam ik deze wegwijzer tegen. Tot 1840 was de Wijkerweg een karrenspoor dat de verbinding vormde tussen Amersfoort en Wijk bij Duurstede.

Dit monument herdenkt de papua’s, die samen met Nederlandse militairen vochten tegen de infiltraties van Indonesië, dat eiste dat Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea bij Indonesië zou worden gevoegd. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van Nederlands Indië was Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea buiten de overdracht gehouden. Het monument van wat dichterbij:

De afgelopen dagen zagen we op dit weblog al de rijke decoratie van de kerk en klooster van São Vicente de Fora in Lissabon. Deze zaal met haar fraaie plafond (zie gisteren) laat zien dat geld ruim beschikbaar was voor deze kerk en klooster. De wand aan de andere kant toont dat nog eens:

in reply to skribe • — (NL | BR) •I think that the main tree in this Kaapse bos (Cape forest) is the European or common beech. Alas I am not very knowledgeable on the subjects of plants and trees.
(The name Kaapse bos was given to the area in 1750 by its new owner, mr Hendrik Swellengrebel, who had been governor of the (Dutch) Cape Colony. He found these woods similar to the ones behind Table Mountain near Cape Town, it seems.)
