I have been annoyed with the amoral/fascist/pro-russian online platforms for a while. I stopped using any BRICS based platforms after russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine. I ditched Musk's Far Right platform also a while ago. And when Trump threatened to invade Europe I decided it was time to finally ditch the USA based stuff.

• Social Media:
  Replacing Twitter with Mastodon and Bluesky was easy, and now I am in the process of migrating from USA based Bluesky to EU based Eurosky servers (same networks, different data location). I haven't found a good alternative to Facebook events yet, and that will be the only thing I miss about FB. I have good hopes about Friendica though.
• Messaging:
  I didn't use Whatsapp. For FB Messenger and Telegram it is proving difficult to get my contacts to switch to opensource/federated messengers. Though I really do think that Element is worthy.
• Google:
  
  • Gmail:
    Now Google was a different story, I had everything there, and it took me a long time. I started with moving all my emails to Infomaniak. I installed Thunderbird and set up my google and Infomaniak accounts there. I used a lot of rules and filters in gmail that are not supported by Infomaniak, so I had to first convert everything to the standard IMAP folders and then move everything within Thunderbird.
  • Drive & Workspace:
    This was a bit easier. Infomaniak has a Linux desktop app for kDrive, for gDrive I had to use a third party app Insync, but I assume there will be a native app for Windows. And then I could just move everything in one go.
    Infomaniak's kSuite is not as polished as G Suite, but it does the job for me. There are a lot of other alternatives that might be better for you.
  • Passwords:
    Since this is a public post I will not go into detail. There are enough alternative options mentioned in the links below and you can search online for how to export your Google passwords.
    I found the option to delete all passwords on my Android phone under the Google passwords settings.

My motivations in order:
1. I was simply annoyed with the toxic content
2. I want to make a moral stand
3. I don't want to support those platforms, either financially or by amplifying them
4. I don't want those platforms or the countries they are based in to be able to use my data for nefarious purposes
5. Privacy
I understand that your priorities might be totally different.
