I've received 5 VC offers "to chat" regarding Pixelfed in the past few days.

Not for sale.

Pixelfed belongs to the people.

I'd rather be broke and true to my beliefs, than sell out.

That's why I'm organizing a Kickstarter to fund the ethical development of Pixelfed, Loops and more.

It's time that someone stood up to them, instead of joining them.

Are you with me?

Truth is, these “VCs” want access to your business so that they can stifle innovation and control it for the big companies. Don’t give in 👊

I'm really excited about the potential of using Friendica to replace facebook, but atm there's an issue with friendica.world federating with other activitypub instances and I can't start trying to bring people across to here if or if they can't interact with other people in the fediverse (or bluesky via bridgy). It's making me anxious! Should I try another friendica instance? Any friendica people able to share more info about the different friendica instances?
in reply to Cătă

Thanks for that, appreciate it. At the moment it's not just bridgy (I see my bluesky posts turn up here), it's federating out to any other instances (mastodon instance even). For example If I post on mastodon or bluesky, it turns up here (friendica.world) fine. ut my posts here don't turn up on mastodon. My mastodon user is following my friendica user, and vice versa. But just nothing turns up on mastodon. Apparently there is an issue they are working on atm. But I'm keen to see if there are any other friendica instances that are reliable.

The other thing that occurred to me is maybe there's a lot of new users fronting up on friendica.world, refugees from facebook or x, and they will eventually ramp up the resources and sort the problem. So it's probably just temporary. Just unfortunate timing for me. And if I'm going to try and onboard my friends to friendica, I'd be wanting to do it on an instance on which federation is working properly.

@Max Riethmuller hmm, maybe try some of the other instances with open signups from the Friendica's own directory, fediverse.observer (map also available) or FediDB. I would have recommended my instance or venera.social, which are over 10 years old afaik, but they're currently closed for signups.

This 100%. It's time for governments to take a role in promoting and supporting decentralised properly portable social media accounts (at the moment than means atproto over activitypub but honestly either is better than nothing). The irony of banning China for using it's carmakers to spy on drivers, when US carmakers spy on drivers.

Tesla workers shared sensitive images recorded by customer's cars. GM sharing driver behaviour without explicit consent with insurers resulting in hikes in insurance premiums for some drivers. Etc etc.

This is what anti-woke means. From Salon: Facebook users still cannot say "white people have mental illness," but they can say "gay people have mental illness."

Getting timeouts, performance issues etc on alternative social media right now. Last night's extremely slow Bluesky, Friendica (closest facebook alternative available) time outs and federation issues, etc. I'm wondering if this means there is a substantial exodus from FB over Zuck's new policies.

In order to not fall afoul of the First Amendment, the USG must prove that the Chinese gov is manipulating what Americans see on Tiktok and accessing American's data. There's no evidence of either. And China can buy the data on the open market anyway.

Breathing toxic smoke containing plastics, heavy metals, and other toxins, disruption of the economy, health system and people's mental health means the LA fires might cost thousands of lives.

It's kinda surreal to watch these images in the news, in a country that claims to be the one true superpower in the world. 🙄

And the water system. Great fires in towns and cities poison the water supply.

It sounds wrong that fire poisons enter the "closed" water system, but massive amounts of poison are pulled into the water.

Cancer causing benzene. Strange chemicals from tech and more.

Look up past fires and benzene in water.

For some reason posts from here not appearing on Mastodon

Any idea of resolution timeline? How long has it been happening? I'm also wondering are you seeing an uptick in users since Zuckerberg announced his new hate speech friendly policies?
in reply to Max Riethmuller

@techlife I've been here about a month and they've never shown. Nor do my likes or boosts.

Oh brilliant, thanks for the update, I can stop wondering if it's me haha.
